Guest guest
Mike is only taking 400 mgs. per day because we just can't afford for him to take anymore right now. I have seen it cheaper in the states (we are in canada) on the net, but I don't know about the quality so we are sticking with Nature's Made. He felt a difference, he said he couldn't explain it but felt like 'something' was going on in his body. He waited two months before starting Urso just so we could see if SAMe would made any difference with his bloodwork and it did, as I posted all counts were down and that was only on milk thistle and SAMe, maybe it's a coincedence, I don't know, but I have researched the stuff SO much and there are actually studies with people who have cholestasis who have seen reversals of their disease and also cirrhosis, with the lack of hope conventional medicine offers, we figure, it's not going to hurt and it may actually help. Mike is also making an appt. this week with a Dr. who practices complimentary medicine, she is well respected and combines both alternative and conventional medicine. We are going to see what she has to say. Anyway, to answer your original question.....yes, he does feel different and I've noticed the difference myself, more energy, better appetite. Good luck with it and I hope your husband feels some change as well. Patti Gracie and Ed Reynolds wrote: Hi Patti, My hubby just started taking SAMe. Guest guest
I was on Ursofalk for about 6 years prior to my tx. I don't think it helped keep my weight up nor did it help add any weight. It may have helped slow the damage to my liver but no controlled studies have been done to prove this. Since it is a non-absorbable artificial bile salt it helps " drag " bile salts out of your body when you take it. This is thought to be helpful in PSC as one of our problems it getting rid of bile salts. They end up being deposited in our skin causing itching and in other places possibly causing tissue damage. While taking Ursofalk you must make sure that you get adequate amounts of vitamins that are fat soluble. These vitamins are A, D, E, and K and perhaps Vitamin B12. This can be done by taking a multivitamin tablet daily especially in those of us whose diets are inadequate because of nausea and early satiation due to increased liver size or general debility. Look for vitamins with mainly Beta Carotene as the source for Vitamin A as your body will make adequate amounts of Vit A from this source and not overload your liver. Too much Vit A can be fatal. It's difficult to do but does rarely happen. Hope this helps. Aubrey Goldstein, MD Liver tx, May/
