I signed up for credit card processing available through OfficeAlly's practice mate. On the Officeally website "Transengen" is listed as the provider of merchant services, but the statement I receive comes from RBS WorldPay.

When I signed up in July 2010, there was a $10/month administrative fee, 25 cent per transaction fee, 10 cent batch header fee(10 cents to batch all transaction any day there are transactions), no annual fee and no monthly minimum. In December, I received a notice that they were instituting a $49.95 annual fee and a $35 minimum monthly processing fee. I called to complain and was told that their fine print states that they can increase fees at any time with notice. The contract is for 3 years, and there is a $195 early termination fee.

I have been looking into changing but need to make it worth the $195 early termination fee.

Thanks for this question. I checked our Solveras and it would be around 50 per month (20 minimum, plus 20 statement fee, plus another 10 fee). The 20 minimum is waived if met with the transaction volume. The rates are similar to other processors in terms of swipe/keyed rates, even though I was told this was already discounted for AAFP members. There is no contract, so can cancel anytime. You have to buy a card swiper that goes with the computer; receipts generated by your computer printer or email. Cost to purchase around $99 and there is a startup fee $200.

The other credit card processor I checked was Office Ally: no 20 minimum, 20 subscription fee plus transaction costs. 3 year contract needed. Card swiper is around $70 dollars and no startup fee. I keep asking if any additional fees they said these are all but I will keep checking. They can import data to Practice Mate if you are using this which I am not. Anyone used OA before and are there any hidden fees?

I'm switching to Intuit (without Quickbooks), too. I've also been totaling close to 10% when all fees are included. But I can't say that Intuit is going to save that much. They all quote these 2% numbers, but that doesn't begin to cover all the fees. When on the phone with the Intuit rep, I specifically asked whether there were any fees not covered in the various small-print locations on the website. He said no. By the time the conversation was done, we had identified at least 2 more fees. If you can get a better deal with someone else, ask the new company about paying your early termination fees for you.  If they want your business  they might cover that cost for you.  Doesn’t hurt to ask Dr. Beth Sullivan, DO From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of mrlphlSent: Thursday, February 03, 2011 3:30 PMTo: Subject: Re: Re: Officeally transengen merchant services I signed up for credit card processing available through OfficeAlly's practice mate. I've been happy with Costco/Elavon - have to be a member of costco.

I've talked to a couple other merchants, but they couldn't beat the fees, so I have stayed wtih them so far.

Note that rewards cards (a significant portion of cards used in my practice) are at a higher rate than listed.

Regardless, I've been pretty happy with them so far.
