Guest guest
Thanks to everyone who made mention of their upper-body symptoms, I plan to use this information to avoid carpal-tunnel surgery if it comes to that. , I have been thinking the same thing as your NSG in regards to upper body symptoms: the tugging of the tether affects the upper-body nerves as they pass out of the vertebrae. I think of it in this way, if you tied your dog up with an " old-fashioned " skipping-rope (the slightly elastic/rubbery-hollow kind), behind your house, and your dog kept running around the corner of the house and straining against his 'tether', the skipping-rope would stretch some, but where it rubbed constantly at the corner of the house, it would be compressed and it would eventually wear at that spot, right? Does this make any sense? If the upper body nerve roots are meant to move up and down *slightly* as the spinal cord moved, where they pass out of the vertebrae, then if they were being tugged down by the tethered cord everytime we bent or otherwise stretched our spinal cord, then those nerve roots might be rubbing against the vertebrae in the same manner as the skipping-rope rubbing against the corner of the house. I'm working on drawing some illustrations to present to my doctors to question my theory - there are just too many of us with upper-body symptoms, without *obvious* Chiari, to let these thoughts go. , thanks for sending photos of your grandson. He is so adorable, and has such beautiful brown eyes, I understand why you would get on the floor to play with him, even if it was painful for you! He was obviously not happy that you couldn't do it more. I enjoyed hearing about your visit with your family, time spent with family is so very precious when they live so far away. As soon as you rest up from their visit, you'll be looking forward to your next time together! (It is so uplifting to share happy news with each other on this list instead of always sharing the sad stuff). Take care, > Hi guys, > > For folks like me with some form of spina bifida - you can have fewer > laminectomies - I have three veterbra that never had the spinal > processes and of course - no lamina. Guest guest
I would like this information too, if somebody has it. The only real upper body Symptom that I was questioned about was Headaches...........however, this only seems to happen of the CSF almost or completely blocked. Mine was, but I didn't have the Headaches, for some strange reason. I don't know if anybody on this List has had this as a Symptom.......but there have been a few on the Spina Bifida Lists that I am on that have had this as a Symptom. From what I understand these are different then Chiari Headaches that may be relieved from having a Detethering, if one has both Conditions. Me Nebraska, USA mymocha@... > >>>Do you have an article where a doctor actually links the upper body symptoms to TC? I would like to see that if I could. Guest guest
This is a form of a Chiari Headache............I get these. From what I gather, there are also other kinds of Chiari Headaches that people experience. There are some who have both Chiari and Tethered Cord and by having the Detethering, they were fortunate to have this Symptom relieved. Maybe this was your Case? Me Nebraska, USA mymocha@... > I had headaches alright It felt like someone was trying to pull my brain out of the back of my head. Since detethering I haven't had one because there is no more tension there. I now have just kneck ache kind of headaches not sure if this is the Chiari or not.
