Guest guest
Cathleen, In response to your last letter to those of us who have fibromyalgia and also vulvodynia, here's the information on me. I am almost 47 years old. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia ten years ago. My fibromyalgia problems now come and go, but never to the extent that they were in 1989. While fibro has given me a lot of pain, I would gladly suffer with it if only my vulvodynia would leave!!!!! I started have vulva pain about 13 months ago, a few months after I started irregular bleeding patterns. A complete physical revealed nothing amiss. My pain consists of a burning, stinging, raw feeling. It was 24/7. I also noticed increased wetness, just short of a discharge, but nevertheless uncomfortable. Repeated trips to the doctor's and tests for yeast, etc. revealed nothing. I was told I am in perimenopause. I was also told to concentrate on something other than my vulva!!! LOL! HOWEVER, I AM BETTER THAN LAST SUMMER!!! At that time, my pain seemed to be at its worse. Then I found out about vulvodynia, and realized I was not the only person in the world with this. I am on nortriptyline, and while my pain is still there, it is significantly reduced. No doctor has told me I have vulvodynia. I gave my nurse-practioner a lot of literature on it. I asked specifically for the nortriptyline after reading that it helped others. At one point, I could barely sit without pain. I suspect my problem is hormone and maybe yeast related. There may be a connection between fibro and VV. I don't know, I just wish it would go away!!!!! Thanks again, everyone, for being so helpful. I enjoy reading all of your letters, even those that don't specifically pertain to me. I wish for 1999 pain-free days for all. It is comforting to me to know that others can understand my pain and frustrations. If anyone ever wants to just vent, feel free to e-mail me directly. I don't know a great deal about this, but I am a good listener! Kathy G.
