Guest guest
The people from work think it's strange that I don't go out with them. I just come home to my dog and cat. I think I'm okay with that, but it seems like I miss out on a lot of life because of this disorder. What do you do for social interaction? Guest guest
I go out and enjoy myself. Im not going to let 4 rule my life. I enjoy the company of some of my co workers. Still not for everyone and I do choose my events *shrugs From: Soundsensitivity [mailto:Soundsensitivity ] On Behalf Of Teri Jane Sent: Friday, 23 July 2010 4:38 PM To: Soundsensitivity Subject: Socializing The people from work think it's strange that I don't go out with them. Guest guest
I know it can be tough. I definitely avoid going out in public sometimes to avoid hearing the sound. Espcially if I'm already in a crappy mood or stressed for another reason, I find hearing the sound even worse! Having been dealing with this for the past 17 years, I have discovered sort of " trends " . I have noticed where I hear it more or less. I try to stick to the " less " places. Sometimes there's nothing you can do and it sucks! WHen I would be in school, or if I have to go grocery shopping. It blows so you just have bear it. Maybe suggest going to some place that's really loud with your friends? LIke a danceclub or concert? Not sure if that would cover your sound..? Remember we're all with you in spirit and there are people in the world who deal with this too!! > > The people from work think it's strange that I don't go out with them. Guest guest
Teri Jane, I go out to dinner with my friends but it has to be a loud type restaraunt. Like a Logan's Roadhouse, LoneStar, etc where its busy, bustling and music playing. The background noise makes me feel more normal. I go to movies but its usually miserable! Guest guest
I'm like . I won't let this condition rule my life. I used to sit home and avoid things I really wanted to do but I started working on a therapy called CBT and it's helped me in certain situations such as going to the movies. I typically stick to LOUD restaurants or sports bars where there is a lot of background noise. You can always go to movies and use earplugs. For many people the earplugs block out the annoying popcorn munching but you can still hear the movie. I used to do that but with lots of practice I'm now able to go to the movies and watch the movie without earplugs, popcorn munchers and all. Bottom line... if there is something you really want to do, don't let this stop you. Try out a few different places to find what works best for you > > The people from work think it's strange that I don't go out with them. I just come home to my dog and cat. Guest guest
I agree with Darlene. You must make an effort to challenge yourself to enjoy life. Sound sensitivity or no sound sensitivity live your life. We cannot control our surroundings but we can control how we let our surroundings affect us.Subject: Re: SocializingTo: Soundsensitivity Date: Saturday, July 24, 2010, 1:15 AM I'm like . Guest guest
Do you get the ear phones for the hard of hearing? They help my daughter make it through the movies! We had a discussion on these a while back and everyone said they really helped them. Just ask at the box office for a pair. Take care!
