Guest guest
I just saw on the news that Walter died today. I am shocked and saddened. I wonder why he did not receive a transplant?? What a mindblower and scary for us too. If we do want to send flowers or something I hope someone can find out what we can do. Bummed Out, Dianne Arneill Dpa1228@... Guest guest
My concern all along has been with cancer of the bile ducts since I have had the disease now for 12+ years. When I expressed my concern to both my Mayo dr. and now my Omaha dr. about this and whether the lgth of time one had the disease went into play at all as far as points and being listed, they said it didn't. They both also said that if a person gets cancer, that does not automatically rule out the possibility of a tx -- seeing how it did for Walter, I can only assume that it depends on where and how severe the cancer is. Several of you have encouraged those of us who are not listed to get listed. Unfortunately, it is not that simple. A dr. won't list you until he feels timing is right. Mine won't even list me even though I'm a status 3 - he wants to wait until I'm a 2B. I have no say in the matter. I can only assume that affects several of us - we can't get listed if the drs. won't do it - and the ultimate decision is theirs. Guest guest
They said that he had cancer that had spread from his liver/ducts to other areas. He didn't receive a transplant because he became ineligible. It's sad and scary. Neither Kenny nor I said anything during the newscast. Even though I didn't know him and I'm not really an avid football fan, you can't help get teary eyed when you hear everyone saying such nice stuff about him. It's obvious that he was not only a great football player, but a great person as well. My heart goes out to his family and friends. Guest guest
If anyone can get an address to send flowers to,.. I would like to send an arrangement from the entire group. Along with that, maybe we could send personal letters to Mr. Payton's family. At noon on 11/2/99 let's all observe a moment of silence in memory of Mr. Payton. Guest guest
This is correct on all points. Sorry to hear about this happening. This is definitely the " worst case scenario " for PSC. Guest guest
PSC livers can look pretty unusual on various scans and Xrays and such. At one time the doctors were convinced that had liver cancer. After a bunch of tests, they decided otherwise. Not fun. That said, there is about a 5% to 10% lifetime risk of bile duct cancer for PSC patients. This form of cancer is often hard to treat once detected. Most PSC patients are monitored by blood tests and ERCP like " brushing " biopsies to try to detect any possible cancer, as early as possible. Roy T. Guest guest
I will be at a burial service for my mother-in-law, Helen Smart, at that time. I will certainly be thinking of Walter Payton also. I can vouch for the great crush of things to be done and taken care of following a death. I sure the Payton family is facing an extra measure of upheaval because of his widespread fame. Tim ltx 4/4/98 --- WYBEAR21@... wrote: > If anyone can get an address to send flowers to,.. Guest guest
Tim, My sympathy and condolences to you in the passing of your mother-in-law. I'm going to have a very busy candle day tomorrow. I think I'll follow 's lead and join in that moment of silence with a candle lit and follow up with a special prayer for you, Helen and your families, along with Walter Payton and his family. Sincerely, Re: Walter Payton > I will be at a burial service for my mother-in-law, Helen Smart, > at that time.
