Dear Members,

I am using borax in my shave cream formulation and my customer

insists on using boric acid inplace of borax(Na borate)

I don't know the difference between boric acid and borax(sodium

borate).How both are chemically different?

If I replace, will the property of the product may change ?

How it reacts with caustic/fatty acids ?

Also I am aware of canadian regulations on using this material in the

product.My product contains only0.7%boric acid/borax!

Hope to recieve an interesting reply

regards

Boric Acid, a weak acid, is H3BO3.

Borax, Sodium Borate, is the sodium salt of Boric Acid. Borax is Na2B4O7 "

10H2O. Borax will produce a pH of about 9.5.

You may see a change in pH.

>How it reacts with caustic/fatty acids ?

Borax reacts with fatty acids to form soaps.
