Omega-3 fatty acids are shown to be very important and effective in a

treatment program for many people with neurological conditions. There

are studies where it made significant differences in ADD, depression,

bipolar, epilepsy, etc. So why not autism? It is being tried with

good results in some. Most people on the traditional American diet

are quite low in omega-3 fatty acids, if not outright deficient. DHA

is not proving to be a key element. EPA is the key element. EPA.

Hands-down, use OmegaBrite for school age kids and adults. If a

younger child will not take it, use Coromega because it is good

quality and tastes decent. Coromega does contain vanillin which is an

artificial flavor, if this is a concern. [My note: people with

phenol intolerance very often have problems with artificial

additives.] Flax seed was " okay " but not as good with some side-

effects which may be a concern. Skip the algae, seaweed, kelp, etc

because humans don't metabolize it well and there are contamination

concerns. Consume the fish/ fish oil because the fish metabolizes it

right, and then humans can metabolize it from the fish [know your

place on the food chain]. EPA – OmegaBrite. www.omegabrite.com. This

is the recommendation of the presenter, but you probably want to look

into this yourself.

-------------------------------

The metallothionein research by Pfieffer. Good, exciting stuff.

Basically, it shows too much copper via some pathways I will specify

in another post on this presentation, with too low of zinc. So, add

more zinc. A lot more zinc. They said like 150-200 mg of zinc. I have

always been told not to go over 100 mg of zinc for an adult, but

these are the numbers said more than once. Please look into this more

before buying a truckload of zinc. How to correct the metallothionein

problem? It will vary for each individual and isn't completely worked

out at this time. It does involve cleaning up the gut for starters.

And add more zinc. Drs. Holmes and El-Dahl will be updating their

protocol to incorporate new metallothionein/mercury information. This

will be on their site shortly.

----------------------------

There was some significantly positive new developments and statements

on the mercury/vaccine issue that several of the doctors testified

this summer for. Sorry, I did not understand them entirely except

that it was a significant victory for the home team. Please refer to

the web sites of Dr. Amy Holmes, Dr. Jeff Bradstreet, Dr.

Wakefield or ARI for more information. Basically, they concluded that

someone approving mercury in thimerasol in vaccines made a big

mistake, there was a bit of a cover-up, and research on the matter is

valid and needs to be funded.

Hi all..

Not to contradict what has to say, but....alot more zinc is a great

idea for those kids whose copper is not too high. The copper is the big

issue. The low zinc is just the clue. According to Dr. Walsh (the guy who is

spearheading the whole mettalothionein thing, he told me personally and

specifically NOT to mega dose on zinc until I find out if the copper is high,

as this can cause serious problems. He said that he is interested in treating

my son (because he is so young and the young ones really seem to respond well

and quickly) and gave me kind of a gme plan for supplementing and said to

start at 15 mg and go up to no more than 30 mg. unitl after he sees Spencer.

He also said that there should be absolutely zero copper in his diet, even

the supplemts should have none. This was my personal experience and I would

hate to have anyone o.d. on zinc unless they know for sure it is safe.

Just a quick note requiring all of you who read this to give us a rowdy round

of congratulations....

I got a confirmation from Pfeiffer Treatment Center (Dr. Walsh's clinic) that

Dr. Walsh will be treating Spencer!!!!! It was a litlle iffy in that there

are apparently far more people seeking treatment than Dr. Walsh is able to

accomodate. He actually presented at the DAN conference hoping to attract

doctors to embrace and include his treatment in the DAN protocol...he told me

that he WAS NOT there to solicit for patients, as he already had more than he

could handle and was turning patients away...This post was not meant to

gloat, only to bouy us all up in our confidence that the squeaky wheel really

does get the oil and I am a squeaky wheel every where I go. This is my focus:

Not that my two year old isn't performing at the level of his NT twin sister.

Not that my two year old isn't verbal the way he should be.

Not that my two year old spaces out when he should be available to me.

Not that my two year old makes typical excursions a nightmare.

Not that my two year old doesn't understand much of his life.

But rather that

My 20 year old WILL not live in a group home

My 20 year old WILL be capable of going to college

My 20 year old WILL choose whether to marry

My 20 year old WILL live a NT life, with the help of GOD and his squeaky

wheel mom.

God helps those who help themselves and my efforts may mean nothing, but they

may mean everything. Only I can and want to help my son rise above the hand

he drew to create a destiny that he will earn, not fall into.

There is no place in my mind for the possibility that Spencer won't have all

of the opportunities that his siblings have.

Whether I think I can, or think I can't, I am probably right.

God has blessed you little one witha squeaky wheel mom.

I talked to Dr. Walsh, too. In frustration, we had

started supplementing our son with zinc because we KNEW his copper levels were

high. We gave him 30 mg/day of zinc picolonate based on a suggestion by a

DAN! person... fell apart. A lot more stimmy. Hyper.

Wetting his pants for the first time in a year. Dr. Walsh looked at

his labs and said that the zinc was probably working, but it wasn't good for his

body to get rid of the copper so fast...And to do it under the care of a

physician. We've got an appointment with a metabolic clinic November 7...I

don't really know if anyone knows what they're doing in this

area...

, Mom to (5, autistic), and (6, NT), who

really would like to find any physician who knows about how the whole person

works and what to do when they're not working right

I love this Amber. My goal is for my DSI 3.4 yo to go to the same Christian

School as her NT sister. Which mean no IEP, aid, ect. We are working hard with a

home Neurodevelopmental program. Although she seems miles away from her NT

counterparts, I'm learning to celebrate the little things. Last night I was

playing " balloon catch " with her (part of her program) and she actually was

catching instead of trapping it. Yeah! It's hard to trust in God's plan for

her, but he has never let us down.

Blessings-

CELEBRATE THE LITTLE THINGS! It makes the journey so

much easier...

, Mom to (5, autistic), and (6, NT), who

went out to dinner with both children and their tired dad and ordered CHAMPAGNE

after 's fairly successful IEP on Friday...
