Does this happen every year? This year I am running into insurance / customer service issuesat least 3 patients new to hmos, with new insurances  sign up for hmos, run into restrictions, promptly call their insurance company, have their complaint recorded by semiliterate customer service agents,

and guess who they callthe PCP - me.. The complaint makes no sense to me any more , much is lost in translation, it is the plan restrictions and the lack of specialists that is the problem and who do they call  for help to soothe the patient's ruffled feathers.. ME1

One rep actually asked me for the patient's plan information, so I am to provide data gathering services now!So it seems to me, they are 3rd parties, , paid to man telephones, take complaints, make calls to pcp, log it all on paper, and not really show actual results

I dont see any effort to actually resolve the issue.. just makework companiesOne representative even got upset that I wouldnt waive a patient's copay, as the patient was very irate, that he didnt get what he wanted...  I invited the rep to encourage the patient to make  A formal COMPLAINT..

ok horrible week, am feeling quite misanthropic

I agree….horrible week ending with a

horrible day. I am SOOOO looking forward to the weekend so that I can get my

head out of it for 2 days.

Wow! Did you remind the insurance rep

that waiving a copay is INSURANCE FRAUD!?!?! I would’ve gotten the rep’s

name, rank, serial #, whatever, and reported it to the insurance commissioner.

I might anyways…the insurance companies should have it logged (if not

recorded) who talked to you.

Good Idea! I will.. I feel bad for these reps , they are only doing what they are paid to do.. the almighty " patient satisfaction " scores..But the good part is that, I weeded out early enough patients with whom the practice would not be a good match, who played dumb and even asked my receptionist, why she couldnt fax sundry stuff for them " what do you do anyway? " " you are the most disappointing doctor " after he/she couldnt figure out ,exactly which plan he/she now belonged to, so that we could get authorisations from the right 3rd party( after 3 prior attempts), (after switching for the 3rd time in 3 weeks.

Truly a week of " no good deed goes unpunished "

and then, there was the new pt, who threatened  to report me to the justice department, because, the specialist he insisted on seeing, refused to see him, till he signed a records release ( which he refused to do), to get records from his  bay area doctor ( for a fairly complicated diagnosis)

If I were the paranoid sort ( wait a minute, I am) I would think, the customer service reps are setting us up to be the bad guys.....

Customer Service

and then,

there was the new pt, who threatened to report me to the justice department,

because,

the specialist he insisted on seeing, refused to see him, till he

signed a records release ( which he refused to do), to get records from his

bay area doctor ( for a fairly complicated diagnosis)

If I were the paranoid

sort ( wait a minute, I am) I would think, the customer service reps are

setting us up to be the bad guys.....

Wow! Did you remind the insurance

rep that waiving a copay is INSURANCE FRAUD!?!?! I would’ve gotten the

rep’s name, rank, serial #, whatever, and reported it to the insurance

commissioner. I might anyways…the insurance companies should have it

logged (if not recorded) who talked to you.

Even if that is true about CA law allowing

him to see whatever specialist he wants (I have never heard that one!), he

still has to comply with his insurance rules. I’ve never heard of a

specialist seeing someone without knowing the reason why. I think I’d

discharge that patient….he might be more of a pain in the future than you

are willing to deal with!

Even if that is true about CA law allowing

him to see whatever specialist he wants (I have never heard that one!), he

still has to comply with his insurance rules. I’ve never heard of a

specialist seeing someone without knowing the reason why. I think I’d

discharge that patient….he might be more of a pain in the future than you

are willing to deal with!

law gave him the right to see whatever specialist he wanted without needing to

give a reason.. so.. no records.. so ..no appointment, per specialist office..

It'd be

funny..if I didn't have to listen to him..

Wow! Did you remind the insurance rep that waiving a copay is INSURANCE FRAUD!?!?! I would’ve gotten the rep’s name, rank, serial #, whatever, and reported it to the insurance commissioner. I might anyways…the insurance companies should have it logged (if not recorded) who talked to you.
