I am not saying this little informal poll would be the deciding factor but I want to include you all in my decision making. So far I have been quite careful to screen people, moderate wild posts, kick out offenders or warn them, and have hopefully kept this a little bit safe for everyone....So, tell me, wise ones, what would you like to do?Everywhere he goes, often flamese follow, however he really is extremely brilliant and kind much of the time....he is a complex fellow.Like all of us, I suppose.Dr. J
Guest guest
You mention he has been dismissive of 4s, has this changed? My feelings are the same as before, I am open to any support and new opinions / suggestions. By whatever name this condition is called, by whatever sub category we all fit into, at the end of the day the only real thing that matters is that we get help and move past this problem to get on with our lives.Sent from my BlackBerry® smartphone on 3Sender: Soundsensitivity Date: Sat, 29 Jan 2011 19:45:01 -0000To: <Soundsensitivity >ReplyTo: Soundsensitivity Subject: Sensitive decision Someone has contacted to me join this group. This is a very intelligent person, a medical professional. He has been a part of the T & H scene for many years. He is interested in all of you as a population. On the other side, he has been, well, at the least and kindest way to put it, dismissive of the 4S condition.Yes dismissive would be a light description, like calling WWII a little 'skirmish'.Nonetheless, he can be very effective and powerful in spreading the work about this condition, whatever it is called, and could possibly even be helpful in advocating for this group. He has asked me if he can join our group for a while and listen/read to what you all have to say, perhaps join in, and so on.I have found him to be both extremely supportive at times and other times, well, he can be quite surgical in his cutting remarks....and even so, to be fair, he is often quite right! So, I am going to ask you, some of you no doubt will already know of whom I speak, if you were ever on the H Board, as this individual and myself spent over a decade intermittently sparring. Guest guest
He would like to read the site and listen in on conversations to learn more about this condition, he is currently working in an industry capacity with a manufacturer for devices for T & H, and I think he may be considering what might be done in that venue for those with 4S. Maybe. I am really not sure about that. I think he is probably curious as well. Guest guest
I thought had gotten the distinct impression that those at the H network where vehemently opposed to the use of broadband devices for 4s/misophonia? Guest guest
Is he the person who kicks us off the other board merely for typing 4S?I would just hate for him to be coming on to gather information in order to shoot us down. However, perhaps if he hears from us he'll understand how real it is, and like you say, possibly be an advocate, something we need more of.If you decided to allow him to join, could you require that at the end of all he posts he put his name and something that signifies that he does not actually have 4S so that those who join this board after he has joined, and not privy to this current discussion, know that when he posts he is not "one of us" at it were? That way people will be able to distinguish his remarks from those who are sufferers. Those are my thoughts.Heidi Someone has contacted to me join this group. Guest guest
Yes that is true to some degree despite what the experts in the field have to say about it...however, this person is not necessarily one of them. Guest guest
Oh boy... I have a suspicion as to who this is. I think its important for everyone here to have an open mind. If this is who I think it is, this person is very smart. If opinions are offered, it doesn't mean we have to accept them as our own. Who knows, we just may learn something. I think things would go better if this person accepts that we use the term 4S here... that way there is NO arguing over a term. We can hold our own and if things get out of control Dr. J holds the termination button in her hands. > > Someone has contacted to me join this group. > > This is a very intelligent person, a medical professional. > > He has been a part of the T & H scene for many years. > > He is interested in all of you as a population. > > On the other side, he has been, well, at the least and kindest way to put it, dismissive of the 4S condition. > > Yes dismissive would be a light description, like calling WWII a little 'skirmish'. > > Nonetheless, he can be very effective and powerful in spreading the work about this condition, whatever it is called, and could possibly even be helpful in advocating for this group. > > He has asked me if he can join our group for a while and listen/read to what you all have to say, perhaps join in, and so on. > > I have found him to be both extremely supportive at times and other times, well, he can be quite surgical in his cutting remarks....and even so, to be fair, he is often quite right! > > So, I am going to ask you, some of you no doubt will already know of whom I speak, if you were ever on the H Board, as this individual and myself spent over a decade intermittently sparring. > > I am not saying this little informal poll would be the deciding factor but I want to include you all in my decision making. Guest guest
If I'm right as to who this person is, he can be very um... interrogating and intimidating for lack of a better word. I did get flustered with him myself, but always tried to step outside myself and try to see things from his perspective. I felt like he wanted to help me, just not in the way I maybe expected him to. He was trying to get me to think. Many people don't do well with constant questioning. They go into defensive mode and shut down. I decided to go the complete opposite direction and spill my guts on the H site. It was hard, but I think it was good for me. So, if he comes here, and decides to start questioning things, try not to take it personal... I really don't think his intent is to harm. I'm sure we all agree that we don't care what this is called. So, if he comes in here and tells us 4S doesn't exist, that its all in our heads, then fine... prove it. I don't care if we are diagnosed with 'nose picking disease' as long as I can be given tools to fix it permanently. The tools I have been given have helped me a lot, but its not fixed it completely which leads me to believe the same as you... that this is both physiological and psychological. There is still the underlying problem that we need to discover. So, if he can piece this puzzle together, I say go for it. He is one person. If he gets nasty then he will be up against a whole army of potential nastiness with all of us friends here. Guest guest
Intimidating yes, but I don't think I've been interrogated by the Dr. I was thinking of another person as the prosecutor puppet. I have trouble keeping all the many personas strait, but I have noticed the Dr. stops short of diagnosing and treating people over the internet, so I'll give him credit for that. Probably they don't make engineers and funeral directors take the hippocratic oath. I really don't take any of them personally, and I really can't complain too much about nastiness as I myself have been banished for nastiness from the H network, boo hoo hoo.To: Soundsensitivity Sent: Sun, January 30, 2011 8:07:01 PMSubject: Re: Sensitive decision If I'm right as to who this person is, he can be very um... interrogating and intimidating for lack of a better word.
So, if he comes in here and tells us 4S doesn't exist, that its all in our heads, then fine... prove it. Guest guest
I don't feel I've been apart of the group long enough to say " yes " or " no " to this mysterious person that will be " eavesdropping " on our posts. All I can say is that enough people do not seem to trust this person despite his brilliance. Brilliance does not make up for inconsiderate behavior, in my book. I don't see how he could be of any help to us, if he already is " against " us. Therefore, if he does join this group, I will no longer post on this group. Saftey it the primary for a group like ours, and inviting the fox to the hen house will cause more ill feeling amongst us that enlightenment. > > > > Is this person a member of the authoritarian patriarchal regime of the H > > network? Guest guest
I wouldn't say he is " against " us. I don't believe that. This will still be a safe place for us whether he is here or not. Dr. J will not allow it to become a hostile place. I highly doubt he would come in and instantly create havoc... unless he has a death wish This is the thing... Dr. J wrote this: " Nonetheless, he can be very effective and powerful in spreading the word about this condition, whatever it is called, and could possibly even be helpful in advocating for this group. " This is what is important. Its worth a shot in my book. > > > > > > Is this person a member of the authoritarian patriarchal regime of the H > > > network? Guest guest
I have been living with this for over 40 years. I know certain sounds and actions bother me, but one thing I have tried not to let bother me is opinions. Unlike the sounds, I can choose to ignore his opinions should I find them offensive. Subject: Sensitive decisionTo: Soundsensitivity Date: Saturday, January 29, 2011, 2:45 PM Someone has contacted to me join this group. J
Guest guest
, you might be surprised how much you and the doctors viewpoints would be similar and maybe he could use your support, his ears are probably really burning right now. Just because an internet group is private, doesn't make it safe, so I don't recommend sharing too much personal information here in any case. Besides I wouldn't want to mess with Darlene : )To: Soundsensitivity Sent: Sun, January 30, 2011 10:37:29 PMSubject: Re: Sensitive decision I wouldn't say he is "against" us. I don't believe that. Guest guest
Thanks for the responses with regard to the " Dr. " becoming apart of the group. I've already shared my personal experiences, so I am not fearful for myself with regard to privacy from criticism. I was safe-guarding others who may, in their sensitive state be hurt by too clinical a response from this " Dr. " As it is for right now, I'm doing well with my 4s/misophonia, so I have no angst or issues to share right now anyway. So I'll just observe for awhile, or I may join Darlene in protecting the group, if need be. > > > > > > > > Is this person a member of the authoritarian patriarchal regime of the H > > > > network?
