I was mainly interested in the genetics aspect of the stuttering research. I don't have any personal connection with stuttering, so I haven't particularly followed this line of research further (I am interested in the autism spectrum which affects a number of people in my family). However, I just found this article about ADHD and stuttering - http://www.stutteringhelp.org/Default.aspx?tabid=452The interesting point is that ADHD may be more common among stutterers (4-26%) than in the rest of the population (3-6%). I have no idea whether there is better information out there - can't look just at the moment.I have read that between 40-60% of people with ADHD have sensory sensitivity. For people with autism spectrum disorders, the rate is even higher (e.g. 75-90% for Asperger's syndrome). In both groups, some of the sensory sensitivity takes the form of 4S, although it is a minority in the autism spectrum (I don't know what

the incidence of 4S is like in ADHD). Still, I regularly see people on an autism/Asperger's website complaining about 4S-like symptoms. I have collected a list of six or seven threads on that site discussing 4S symptoms just in 2010 alone. I have certainly heard of a family where the mother has ADHD and sensory sensitivity (no 4S) and her son has 4S - that was in response to me posting about my 4S on another website. So stuttering has a possible weak link to ADHD, and ADHD has a stronger link to sensory sensitivity, and a possible link to 4S. The missing link is any real kind of research about the incidence of 4S, both in the general population and in specific populations such as stuttering, ADHD, autism spectrum, OCD, anxiety disorders, etc.> > > > > > From: daogress <daogress@>> > Subject: Dr. Phil> > To: Soundsensitivity > > Date: Wednesday, December 8, 2010, 3:36 AM> > > > > > > > For some of you newer people who have not seen the older> > posts, we have been down this road before.
