Guest guest
At the age of 39, I finally told my mom about 4S... I was complaining to her about a coworker, aka " Crunchy McSmackerson " . He had been off for 4 days and it was wonderful. I was telling her how he crunches and smacks and talks with his mouth full all day and how bad it annoys me, and how I was dreading going to work on Monday. She yelled at me and said " Oh my god! You really need to learn how to deal with all these things that annoy you! Just get over it and grow up! " I got so mad at her... I said " You know how when I was a kid and couldn't stand mouth sounds? How every night I ate dinner with headphones on or went in another room? How I can't handle the sound of AM talk radio? How all through high school I had to deal with the gum cracking? " and kept going on and on naming things. She was like, yeah, I remember all of that. Well, I told her it's a REAL THING called 4S and it might be neurological but nobody knows, how I found this group, how there's TONS of other people like me out there, etc. etc. She was amazed and couldn't believe it. I actually made my mom speechless! :-) Now if I can just get my dad to understand. He has always been a huge trigger for me.. I can't even look at him when he's eating. He thinks all this stuff is psycho babble bunk and will never accept it... Oh well.
