Guest guest
maybe set your cell phone to vibrate and set alarm and sleep with it so it will wake you up?Subject: Sleeping while roommate sniffles...To: Soundsensitivity Date: Sunday, December 4, 2011, 8:58 PM I've never had to share a room with anyone else before, so I'm hoping for some advice from people who sleep with other people around... My roommate is rather sick right now, which makes both of us miserable, albeit for different reasons. She sniffles pretty badly, and I've been primarily coping with it by being out of the room a lot, and wearing earplugs or headphones when I am around her. The problem is that I can't go to sleep while she's sniffling, coughing, and clearing her throat. She usually quiets down once she's asleep, but my strategy of waiting for her to go to sleep before I even try means that I get little sleep myself. Since I have to use an alarm clock to wake up for classes, I can't wear earplugs to sleep. I did that over the weekend and it was awesome, but midweek it's just not going to work. So, is there anything I can do about this, or just wait for her to get better? Any alternate methods of waking up that would allow me to wear earplugs overnight? Sympathy so my misery can have company?

Guest guest
I would even offer to buy and put by her bed a box of kleenex, a box of medicine to reduce runny noses. For yourself, a small radio, turned down low to a classical music station. If not, a calming classical music cd. Good luck and much sympathy to you.To: Soundsensitivity Sent: Sun, December 4, 2011 8:58:32 PMSubject: Sleeping while roommate sniffles... Guest guest
Great idea with the cell phone. they also make vibrating alarm clocks http://www.amazon.com/Sonic-SBB500ss-Vibrating-Alarm-Clock/dp/B000OOWZUK/ref=pd_sim_hpc_4 To: Soundsensitivity Sent: Sunday, December 4, 2011 11:34 PM Subject: Re: Sleeping while roommate sniffles... maybe set your cell phone to vibrate and set alarm and sleep with it so it will wake you up?Subject: Sleeping while roommate sniffles...To: Soundsensitivity Date: Sunday, December 4, 2011, 8:58 PM I've never had to share a room with anyone else before, so I'm hoping for some advice from people who sleep with other people around... Guest guest
That's a tough one. I would try ear plugs and a few alarms so you can hear them. That might help so you don't hear that raw sound all night. Also, can you talk to someone and let them know your situation? Maybe they can move you in with a quieter sleeper. Guest guest
There is an alarm clock that goes under your pillow and vibrates when it is time to wake up. Maybe that would help by allowing your to wear your earplugs at night and still wake up. Just an idea. You have my sympathy and understanding. prn Sleeping while roommate sniffles... Guest guest
I think that's probably the solution most readily available to me right now, so I'll give that a shot tonight. Usually I charge my phone overnight, but I'm sure I can charge it during the day and it should be fine. As far as changing roommates, as someone else suggested, I'm usually really happy with this one so I'd rather not. Oddly enough, in general she triggers me amazingly little-- it's just when she's sick that life sucks. > > > Subject: Sleeping while roommate sniffles... > To: Soundsensitivity > Date: Sunday, December 4, 2011, 8:58 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >  > > > > > > > > > > I've never had to share a room with anyone else before, so I'm hoping for some advice from people who sleep with other people around... > > My roommate is rather sick right now, which makes both of us miserable, albeit for different reasons. Guest guest
When I was in college and living with a roommate I made a 1 hour long play list of soft calming music and would put my head phones on fall asleep with that on. It's not the best option but it did help me to at least fall asleep. >I've never had to share a room with anyone else before, so I'm hoping for some advice from people who sleep with other people around... >My roommate is rather sick right now, which makes both of us miserable, albeit for different reasons. Guest guest
I'll look into that. My concern with the other alarm clock linked here was that when I looked up the amazon page, it seemed that it was meant to make a particularly loud noise as well, which isn't really necessary and seems inconsiderate given the shared living conditions (we all can hear our neighbors' ordinary alarm clocks through the walls). Do you know of any specific brand that works well? > > There is an alarm clock that goes under your pillow and vibrates when it is time to wake up.
