Guest guest
I've just been diagnosed with Mitral Valve Prolapse. And am wondering if anyone else with 4S also have MVP? From what I've read about MVP, it is common to also have some form of anxiety along with it. And in addition to my 4S panics, about 6-7 yrs ago I started having these fainting spells or near fainting spells unrelated to noise triggers which were increasing in frequency. My doc ordered a bunch of tests - MRI of brain, bloodwork, EKG and Echo of my heart. All were normal except the echo which revealed the prolapsed valve. What is interesting is there is a syndrome associated with MVP (MVPS) and also sometimes an autonomic nervous system disorder called dysautonomia, so MVPS-D), both of which include panic attacks (think 4S, hmmmm) and sometimes sound sensitivity! Wow. I had a tilt table test to confirm that I do NOT have the dysautonomia but I still may be suffering from either the full-blown MVPS - or - and the card doc said he'd look at my MRI himself to check for this - some sort of disconnect or misfiring between the brain and the nervous system that is causing my fainting spells (always start with racing heart and shortness of breath). Wanted to share with all of you. He put me on beta blockers which will diminish the effects of epinephrine (adrenaline) and other stress hormones. I'm thinking of weaning myself off my clonazepam which really hasn't helped much with my 4S anyway. And see how these BB's do the trick alone. Will let you all know how it goes!! Fingers crossed. Only problem is the BB's also reduce my BP which is always very low anyway, but I just have to be careful to continue to hydrate and not overdue it while on this med.
