Guest guest Posted September 20, 2000 Report Share Posted September 20, 2000 I just got off the phone with from UNOS. I am going to the forum in Dallas. Mr. told me he is preparing a packet for the Dr.'s to read at their meeting the night before the forum. The packet will have both the e-mails and letters he has received. He also said the committee will meet on Oct. 12 and do the final draft of new standards. Then will send them to ( UNOS ) Board of Directors, and on to Dept. of HHS by Nov.16 He said the current "scores" are voluntary guide lines and pretty much are followed by all. But when HHS are finished with the new scores they will be MANDATORY under FEDERAL LAW. Mr. said - in not so many words ( as he was very careful with his words ) that in the future - ANY - changes would take quite some time to work into the system , as long as a year because it would have to go through the federal gov. I told him I felt the committee was leaving behind the folks with PSC . That things like bleeds, infections, etc. etc. spoke directly to quality of life issues and that it was impossible to treat all liver disease the same no matter how they tried. He said he agreed !! I asked him how the letters were running and he said 50-50. So if you would like your voice heard---please either--email or fax UNOS before - Monday Send fax to : Attn.
