Pam,

I assume that your post means that the flu shot is okay? I went to have one

tonight because I never get them because they say you can't be allergic to

chickens. Well I'm allergic to eggs. Last year I had a couple of bad bouts

of the flu so I decided to get one. Well the letter said this time allergies

to eggs. Oh well I'll just have to resort to prayers to get me through the

season. Most of the time I don't get flu I'm too busy getting sinus

infections. Phil was going to ask his liver doctor next week if he could get

it.

Flu shot...

Tyler has gotten them the last couple of years and every year we have to

fight the insurance co. because they say he doesn't need because of his

age...now 5 days shy of 17...You'd think since they have been paying for all

his tests, labs, hospital stays and meds that they would know that he needs

this....It just proves that the insurance copanies truly deal with pieces of

paper and not individuals...Every yr it takes phone calls and letters for

them to cover this cost...Absolutely crazy....Talk about a waste of time and

money....Sorry for the rant but this is something that totally agrivates me

to no end....One of the few with Insurance Co.

Norm,

A nurse at work showed me a pamphlet on Diabetes, and the Flu shot. It

was saying how important it was because of the immune system (Diabetes being

an auto immune disease). By the way, in case you don't remember, I'm

borderline diabetic. My Dr's appt. is on the 19th, I will ask him about it

then.

Love,

My understanding is that the flu (and pneumonia and hepatitis) shots are not

only OK for PSC patients, but strongly urged.

Quantell (and I) regularly got the flu shot, even before his PSC dx. But

since then, more doctors have started calling to alert us about arrival of

the year's vaccine.

Of course the shots are contraindicated in anyone with a history of bad

reactions, or allergies to eggs or any of the other preservatives or

processing agents.
