Marge,

I truly appreciate your getting to the bottom of this about the

Perfumer's Alchohol. I have had problems with this stuff

solubilizing, too. When I spoke w/the owner on the phone months

ago, he recommended that I use their Surfactant Blend 2000 -

a " secret " blend of solibilizers. (I say " secret " , because after I

purchased it, he told me that his manufacturer will not disclose the

ingredients because of some trade secret B.S. - I wrote for help

about that to Maurice months ago, but was still never able to get

the full INCI name from the company, so now the stuff is just

sitting on a shelf here). I've had better luck w/the EO Solve from

Essential Oil University. I just don't like using PS60 or PS80 by

itself... blends work better for me.

Anyway, I'm glad to know that this Perfumer's Alcohol is only 80%

SDA 40! No wonder I've had problems w/some of our fragrances! Have

you noticed the smell seems to be " off " ? It just smells like

rubbing alcohol to me. You mention that you've used the SDA40 w/no

problem, so if you know of an inexpensive source, I'd love to hear

about it. Lebermuth has it for a reasonable price, ( & their are

other suppliers, of course) but it's my understanding from the

Department of ATF that it must be diluted in order for me to

resell. It's not legal to just use a PGA (pure grain alcohol) in

products, so what do you do? I have all the forms from Dept of ATF

for my SDA 40 licensing (geez, need an attorney to figure these

forms out!)... maybe someone who knows more about the SDA 40 selling

process can help. Of course, the owner @ The Chemistry Store told

me it will costs thousands of dollars & basically take an act of God

to get licensed, but it's in his best interest for me to keep buying

from him. If I were to get into reselling the SDA40, I wonder if

anyone would even be interested in purchasing it?

Thanks for sharing what you found out.

with their perfumers blend, the absolutes would not dissolve...but

floated on top like little drops of colored oil.

so rather than being 90% it is 80%... >

I know nothing about making transparent soap but I don't see why not.

Wishfull thinking. According to one vendor, with less than stellar credability,

Perfumers Blend " consists of 90% SDA 40B Alcohol and 10% DI Water. SDA 40B in

its pure

form contains about 8% water. "

I can't think of any harmful effects.

Other than the potential of the Witch Hazel odor effecting your perfume, you

shouldn't see any difference if you compare Perfumers Blend and Witch Hazel at

equal alcohol

levels.

The advantage of using Perfumes Blend is you can go to higher levels of alcohol

which will make a drier, finer spray.
