Guest guest
I have to agree that stress certainly makes VV worse, but I, too, am uncertain about a particular traumatic event starting the whole thing in my case. Now, of course, everything seems traumatic....ha ha. I look back at things and classify them as BVV and AVV (before vulvodynia and after). Heidi, if I remember correctly, wasn't someone polling us a while back about things we had in common. For example, many of us have fibromyalgia, mitral valve prolapse, TMJ, tailbone problems, etc., etc. Also, I THINK I read somewhere that it particularly affects caucasion women. In my case, I believe that it has something to do with hormones and perimenopause (I will be 47 next month). But, obviously there are many of us on this list who are a lot younger or older so there has to be other reasons, too. Anyway, I feel stress is big cause of its continuation anyway. Guest guest
I had to kind of chuckle when Michele ended this with ... " Heidi? " I don't know but it just came off kind of funny to me. Anyway, boy! that is kind of a tough question. My whole childhood was traumatic, to be honest, but I do not remember an isolated incident that correlated with the onset of vulvar pain and burning. I guess for me I would say 'no' as to whether trauma has played a role in my pain. However, stress definitely does exacerbate my symptoms. Guest guest
I belong to the group of women who started all this history with a candidiasis, a yeast infection. I think there are few main groups like women who had an injury (sp?), yeast infection, women who always had it since the childhood. What I've noticed is a different thing: when I entered in the list I thought that all we were with the same pain but now I think there are two main group: the vulvodynia's sufferers and the vestibulitis ones. Both can have relief from some non medical tricks but the medicine are different. What I am trying to say is that to me vestibulitis and vulvodynia are 2 separate things. I have POC and for what I can do I never have the symptoms people with vulvodynia have. just my morning thoughts... Chiara
Guest guest
I agree with you Chiara. I have purely vulvodynia. I am not currently seually active, but it doesn't hurt to insert a tampon. The thing that confuses me, however, is that I am bright red, and from what I have read, I thought that redness is associated with vestibulitis, and vulvodynia sufferers have no color change. I hardly slept at all last ngith because of the pain. I had to take a codiene to knowck me out. I just don't know how much longer I can deal with this... Guest guest
Christy, I am sorry that you are in so much pain. I know many on this list seem to have a yeast problem which I am not that familiar with. However if you want to try the low oxalate diet to see if it helps you here is the link. Guest guest
I am really sorry and I wish i could say something helpful to you but the fact is that i have a complete different disorder so I don't know what could you take. I remember few weeks or days ago someone posted picture of how should look a vulvodynia's vagina because someone asked about the color: can someone remeber this for Christy? If nobody has those informations try to look in the archives maybe the messages about this topic are already (...wait I have to see the dictionary for this word...) filed; the only help that I can give you is a pray from Italy Chiara
Guest guest
My gyno said the VV can be caused by HPV, or chronic yeast infections. It makes sense with the yeast infections and all those harsh creams we end up using. I don't know about anyone else, but I always burnt more after it. That's why I switched to my natural product. My VV really kicked in after tons of antibs., yeast infections and EXTREME stress, trauma. Lainey

Guest guest
I thank you all so much for responding to my question: what is common about all of us. It is clear to me that there are several different disorders here. Some have the vestibulitis which is the pain associated with touch. Then, others, myself included have just burning and redness. I realize too that the term vulvodynia is a blanket term for pain of the vulva. It is like saying, " I have a headache. " Of course, we all know there are many different kinds and causes of headaches. Just as there are different causes and symptoms of vulvodynia. I am sure that is why there are so many different kinds of treatments that we all can testify to that works on such an individual basis. Not everyone takes tylenol for a headache and gets relief. Heidi, your post re: Common Conditons/Causes, etc. was so comprehensive and very informative. I thank you for taking the time to send that out to us. I agree with alot of your assumptions and agree that if we can help researchers figure out the " Why " it can be nipped in the bud before it escalates to middle of the night emergency room visits and years of a celibate existence. --- " Loebach, " wrote: > > > > I agree with you Chiara. Guest guest
Yes, Yes, Yes, Lainey - My instincts tell me that this is related to yeast also. One yeast specialist I had a consultation with, Dr. Crandall said, and I would have to agree, is that the yeast is in the epitheial (sp) layers of the tissue. The burning and the irritation is from residual inflamation caused by enzymes that the yeast is throwing off. We could have 100 cultures and they would all be negative because the yeast is not in the vagina (where most of the doctors get the specimen swabs from). I don't have VVS just the burning and she insists that long term oral antifungals will get rid of this. By using the topical antifungals, all you do is irritate the already burning tissue and that is not going to get anywhere near the cellular layers anyway. She just got back from a big yeast conference that was held two weeks ago in ton, S.C. where many researchers presented new information. I wonder if there is any new info that will help us?? By the way, I never had yeast infections. I got ONE and here I am with this thing!! ---Lainey9911@... wrote: > > From: Lainey9911@... > > My gyno said the VV can be caused by HPV, or chronic yeast infections. Guest guest
Yes, I too must say that I had lots of problems with yeast infections, but the vulvar pain only started immediately after a traumatic thing. And, as life gets better, i feel like I am becoming more and more pain free--or, the pain is less concentrated in the vulvar region. For example, I will have burnign and itching on my soles of feet and legs (which is much more tolerable than vulvar!!). But, I have also been using Calcium citrate regularly. SO, I don't know what's going on. SOme aspects are definitely much much better, and then there are the seemingly new or related effects/pains in other parts of teh body. ?? Guest guest
Christy are you seeing a specialist? Redness is a sign of inflamation. Try the Aveeno sitz baths for at least 20 minutes 2x a day. Or use a cold compress. I have even used ice wrapped in a paper towel to relieve the pain. Michele D
Guest guest
I was just reading one of the posts and found my mouth wide open. I never knew there was a connection with our symptoms. I have TMJ, FM, tailbone pain (lower back) and multra valve prolapse, plus yeast infections and bladder infections and high stress. Interesting how all this connects.
