Guest guest
Hello I was just doing a search on " microbial test kits " and came across this (see below). Nan & /or Jen it's been a year now, if you're out there, has there been any further updates? If so, would you be so kind as to share your knowledge with us. I would be ever so interested to read what you have found. Cheers Anita Grant <----------------------------------------------------------------- Biovert appears to contain the same ingredients as the product known as " Myavert C " (INCI Glucose and Lactoperoxidase and Glucose Oxidase) I wonder if there have been changes made to the Biovert, as I received a sample from the company and it's absolutely odorless(?) Not any smell to it, much less being that of an outhouse, as indicated in one of the archived messages ... the comment was funny and good for a smile :-) I've had the Biovert sample for approx. 8 months and have performed 2 preliminary microbial test with no bacteria/yeast/mold detected from the product itself (I always perform testing on new ingredients that need to be added at lower temps ... one at the time the ingredient is received and one at 6 months). I also have made sample water & oil formulations using the Biovert as a preservative and they have remained stable and passed preliminary microbial testing thus far (I accomplish this using 3Ms microbial testing kits) ...though I am fully aware that preliminary testing doesn't mean that the product can withstand challenge testing. Still, in the CosmeticInfo archives there are no research links listed for Myavert C or Biovert relating to this ingredient's effectiveness as a preservative. I would like to have reliable data to read through before sending a sample out for challenge testing, simply because of the expense in doing so. In doing a web search, I've found there are many commercially produced products listing Myavert C and Biovert as their " preservative " , so if nothing else, it's truly peeked my curiosity. Will keep digging and will report back with any info I find!!! Thanks for your help, Jen!! Hope everyone's new year is off to a GREAT start!! It's proven stable during our in-house tests, but these are not the same rigorous tests performed by the outside lab. Sooo, I've wavered a great deal with this one. I'd much prefer to have outside data prior to the expense of our testing. We've decided to go with testing one product for now. Our most expensive moisturizer will be tested. If all turns out well, it will be easier to recoup some expense - this preservative " ain't cheap " :-) I will report back to you, Anita, when we get the news. Have a GREAT day! Guest guest
> Hello > > I was just doing a search on " microbial test kits " Hi Again,Anita ) I don't know if you found what you were looking for in microbial test kits, but I have a couple of sources that I am happy to share: 3M has a wonderful base of microbial testing kits available ... very specific kits that are quite easy to use ... you will need a different petrifilm for each class of microbe you wish to test for, but they are quite accurate and a quality product! They are listed under 3M Petrifilm Plate products. You can find out more about these by calling 3M Microbiology Customer Service at 1- (U.S.) or 1- (Canada). There is also a very basic testing kit available at a reasonable cost through www.SnowdriftFarms.com This tests for bacteria, yeast and mold. These kits don't replace challenge testing, but they do afford you a good indication whether or not you're producing a clean product. Have a GREAT day!! Guest guest
Hi ya Nan Please do excuse my tardy reply to your email. Thanks so much for the feedback on Biovert & test kits - I am trying to purchase Biovert to conduct some tests of my own but have hit a bit of a stumbling block. I'm not too worried about the price of the preservative, as the USD$ is rather low against the GBP£. Could you tell me where I would be able to source this preservative? I have tried to contact Adina (ArchChemical Distributor here in the UK) but to no avail. I have also sent two emails to ArchChemicals direct but have not had a reply. Many thanks in advance. Guest guest
Hi again Just wanted to let you know that I will be receiving samples soon. The lady from Adina contacted me today to confirm all. Cheers in advance for your help. Anita > Hello > I was just doing a search on " microbial test kits " and came across > this (see below). Guest guest
Hi all The technical data sheet states that: " Dosage - Biovert is supplied as two separate solutions. For maximal effect the substrate solution should be dosed at 1% by weight and the enzyme solution at 0.05% by weight. Lower doses may be appropriate in some products, however, it is important to maintain the 20:1 ratio by weight between substrate and enzyme solution. " Would someone be so kind as to tell me: 1. When should this be added to your formulation? (ie: before, during, after your mixture is formulated) 2. How should it be added to the formulation? (ie: Do you have to mix both 100g substrate solution and 5g enzyme solution together prior to adding it to your formulation OR should they be added separately to the formulation?) 3. When Arch Chemicals say that " Lower doses may be appropriate in some products " a) What products are they talking about in particular? What would be the recommended doseage for each? Please, do, let me know if I have left anything out or if what is written above *does not* make sense. In the meantime & as always many thanks in advance for your assistance!
