Broken Hand/Wrist

Hi Everyone!

I have a couple of questions. Has anyone broken a bone since having AOSD and did

your AOSD and or the medication we take for it interfere with the healing of the

broken bone?

I fell the other day and while trying to prevent from falling on my dog I put my

hand out to take and catch myself. It is the one thing I never do when I fall

because I know that is how people break there wrist. Long behold guess what the

base of my hand/wrist is broke. I have only ever broken one other bone, it was a

bone in my foot and it was pre-AOSD. That bone after 3 months it had just barely

begun to calcify and heal. I actually ended up having to have surgery to remove

that bone because I re-broke it just as it had started to calcify and it refused

to heal after that. I am concerned that my body just doesn't heal broken bones

that well and you add the fact I am on Humira, MTX, and a list of other meds. It

could be a long process. I do have a call in to my rheumy and will ultimately

follow my doctor's advice, but I wanted to know what if someone else has been

through this. My PCP has put me in a splint and I am to take it off once a day

to move my

joints.  I am also debating if I should go see my orthopedic surgeon. I do go

back in 9 days to have it re-checked. My hand was very swollen and my PCP wants

to recheck after the swelling has gone down. She did see a break even with the

swelling.

I would appreciate hearing if someone else has had a broken bone since being

diagnosed with AOSD and what your experience was. Also if anyone has any advice

on how to train my Left hand to do what I normally do right handed that would be

appreciated too.

Thanks!
