Guest guest
You wonder about how many 'violent offenders' are in prison for 4s triggers. I wonder too. Back on July 4, 2007 a firefighter, who had been complaining about a neighbor for years, shot dead three people during a party at that house. Google "Terrance Hough Cleveland" and you'll see many links. I remember when I first heard about it, I felt that I could easily understand his rage. Here is the web address to a column in the local Cleveland newspaper at the time, which I particularly like: http://www.cleveland.com/brett/blog/index.ssf/2007/07/cleveland_needs_civility_squad.html . Sometimes I envision giving a smack to make the gum fly right out of their mouths. I also think that if I knew that I only had a few days left on earth, I'd drive my car into the bar that sits at the end of my street (when no one is there). Do some economic damage and make a point, too. But I want to stay a free person so I try to avoid, avoid, avoid. I hope I can move out of this neighborhood by the end of the year. Guest guest
I'm guilty of mild self harm when a trigger gets to be too much. Just things like digging your nails into yourself, biting a finger, stubbing your own toe, etc. Like Randall said, I try to channel that anger into inanimate objects. I've broken many a pencil back in grade school and high school just trying to vent the anger without hurting anyone. I probably hit my big brother a few times when I was still a little kid, but noting major or memorable. When I was younger I used to have the violent fantasies about hurting people making triggers. I try not to do that anymore, though. I don't like the thought of hurting other people, emotionally or physically. Plus, thinking about doing horrible stuff like that makes me feel like a bad person, even though I know I'm not. " I don't have much of a social life. " -Randall True that. 4S has a huge control over what I do, and with who. My social life has pretty much been reduced to talking to friends online over AIM or by text message, but rarely hanging out. " As far a people in prison having 4S... I don't know about that. I'm sure there are some, seeing as our numbers are growing. But I'm not sure I'd say it was the 4S that helped get them there. From the group we have here, and those I've been talking with for a long time now, it seems we are all very caring individuals. We tend to think of others before ourselves even to the point of making ourselves worse off. " -Darlene I agree with that. I feel like most of us understand that we can't hurt people because even though they're hurting us, they don't know it. Unfortunately its just not socially acceptable for us to lash out at non-sufferers. Sure, we joke on here that we could call it " self defense " but that would never hold up in court or anything, you know? I feel like most of us understand this, so we do a good job of not physically harming other people. Sure, sometimes some of us will lash out, but most of the time I think its minor stuff; nothing worth being sent to jail for. But I don't deny the possibility of sufferers being arrested for 4S related episodes of rage. > > I'm currently having an issue controlling my episodes of rage due to 4s. > I'm wondering two things: > > 1. Guest guest
Me too. I inquired a while ago about finding a good apartment for 4S. Several comments were to pay close attention to management. Management is everything. Where I am now it is strong, thankfully. Three complaints and you are evicted. I have complained several times, and they respond within 10 minutes (too loud TV). I haven't had problems in quite some time, thanks to this. I don't like to complain to mgmt. But when I asked the one lady nicely, directly, it was only helpful for that evening. The next evening the TV was screaming loud again (huh???). So I just called managment right back again. And there hasn't been problems in a while. Make sure wherever you go mgmt is strong. What a difference. And you should be fine. Hang in there Donnie. Subject: RE: Re: How far is too far?To: soundsensitivity Date: Monday, March 15, 2010, 10:41 AM That guy better be careful. That attitude and disturbance will one day get his arse hauled to jail. Or at least evicted, I hope, if the spineless manager decides to do something. There's no excuse for that kind of.... I would use a really potent insult here for that tenant, but there're kids on the list. I hope you find a nice, quiet place, Donnie. Guest guest
thanks, it means a lot to be able to come here and be understood, i really want to try to sound proof my bdrm. as best i can when i move again. and, that guy downstairs is just a jerk but for some reason, he has the manager (young) smart but young, fooled! she doesn't see his dark side but other tennants have told me they've had to call the sherriff on him and i've called twice in one weekend, shaking my head and really wondering why he's still here. he has quieted down some because i don't think he wants them BANGING on his door again and i know he's smoking pot down there too, that's another part of the hell i'm going through, didn't know people were allowed to smoke in their aparment and out on their balcony, it's like the 70's here, in a bad way. i sure wish someone could 'figure this out'.......there was a time in my life before i got clean and sober, just over 20 yrs. now that i lived in an apt. with noisy people, music, i'm sure, all stuff i could not handle now. so, i had it when i was young, then free from it mostly till about 18 yrs. ago i think. so, what made it go away and what made it come back with a vengeance??? > > > That guy better be careful. Guest guest
What a great idea. Move to a quiet place where there's no one under 45 (not that I'm against young people, but the noise, yes). Hope this isn't a really stupid question, but how to go about that? Live in a retirement community, or what do you look for? It sounds stupid but I really want to know. Subject: Re: How far is too far?To: Soundsensitivity Date: Sunday, March 21, 2010, 8:28 AM I am not sure anybody's violent reactions to all this horrid noise, the music, basketball, would be from 4S. Maybe we are more sensitive to it, but I think that just about anybody living with that type of noise, that invades YOUR PRIVATE SPACE, would go bananas and react this way. I think that is normal behavior and the people who are playing the music that loud are total idiots and maybe some are even on the verge of being not able to abide by the rules of society. A lot of "younger' people are like this, they have no regard for anybody else's private space, some grow out of it, some do not. You can get out of an apartment, but pretty darn hard to get out of a house you own.The best thing I ever did was move to an over 45 community , NO KIDS. If your kids live with you they have to be 22 years old. Everybody who lives here said the same thing, "I moved to get away from noisy teenagers and their cars and music." It just drove me crazy when I had to face that type of noise. I have OCD also and I think that played a role in my reactions.>> > That guy better be careful. Guest guest
We had been looking for a few years and kept an eye on the newspaper. Usually you will find new developments for 55 and over, sometimes the age limit is 45. In our situation, 20% of the people can be 45, 80% have to be 55 and over. It is an average age, so the husband could be 55 and the wife could be younger, but it has to average out to 55, and at least one person in the household has to meet the minimum age requirement. You can probably just do a Google search for age restricted commmunities, 55 and over, active adult also is a term frequently used. Ours has a golf course, clubhouse with all kinds of classes and entertainment, a nice pool and hot tub. If you get in on the ground floor when it is new, then you really meet a lotof people but even if you move into one that is established, it is a very welcoming atmosphere because you have a lot in common with most of the people. A lot of people are still working here, it is very active. There are a lot of social activities you can participate in if you want. They organize trips and cruises, day trips, all kinds of fun things. There is a grocery store at the entrance and a lot of the people who live here have part time jobs there as cashiers and baggers. Just a little extra income and a way of getting out and having something to do. > > > > > > That guy better be careful. That attitude and disturbance will one day get his arse hauled to jail.
