Guest guest
Hi All, I've been asked about the compounding procedure for VenaSilk (hydrolyzed oat flour). I am guessing that others may be wondering as well and decided to respond to the full list, rather than to individuals. VenaSilk is water-soluble and the manufacturer's recommendations are to disperse into very hot (85C) water with agitation. As some of you have discovered, VenaSilk can be reluctant to completely disperse in water. While this is the general recommendation and will ultimately work ok, a more efficient/effective method is to mix it first into a bit of glycerin or surfactant. In an emulsion, such as a cream or lotion, I very often use 2-3% glycerin. To come up with a better dispersion, the VenaSilk can be added to the glycerin and mixed in prior to adding water (and other water phase ingredients). Then the entire water phase can be heated as usual. In a shampoo or body wash, VenaSilk can be added to a bit of liquid surfactant or glycerin and then the remainder of the water phase is added. Hope this helps! Angie The Herbarie Natural Source Ingredients for Toiletries & Cosmetics http://www.theherbarie.com
