Guest guest
HI group, Well I am off tomorrow for Las Vegas and then to Riverside to see Dr. Franco for my first visit with him . Wish me luck! On the subject of hyperpigmentation ,the dark grey marks that I had all over both legs are almost gone! They are just faint shadows now and one of the large ones has almost completely disappeared. It took nine months to get to this stage but I am marveling at how good they now look. So those of you that have them, they can fade! For once I didn't jump the gun and I put off having lazer surgery done on them. Patience paid off. See you in a week!
Guest guest
Thanks, Gloria. I went to Dr. Trentham last week and he was all excited to see how well I was doing until I mentioned the blue spots - his face fell. But, anyway, he said it was rare (3% after long-term Minocycline use) and wondered why it would show up so soon on me since I've only been on Minocin since Nov.. We're going to watch it another two months to see if it spreads. If it becomes a problem, I may have to switch to doxycycline. At this point, it's only on my ankles and I can live with it. It is benign and only a vanity issue so I'm not too concerned....yet. Babs RA 8/98, DX 4/99, AP 11/99 200 mg. Minocin 112 mcg. Synthroid 2 mg. Hytrin 10 mg. Lipitor Mestinon Vits. & Misc. Suplmts. Guest guest
Hello everyone: I could not resist my 2 cents. I have the nicest tan this year and it is not from sitting in the sun (since we hardly had any since March) but from the mino. It is all even and I feel good. I am writing my story and will post it sooooooooooon. Hugs Mado rheumatic Re: Hyperpigmentation >Thanks, Gloria. Guest guest
Dr. Graham Chiu mentioned a study about vitamin C preventing/reversing minocycline hyperpigmentation and some of this group tried it successfully. I can't remember what doses were used. It's worth bearing in mind that minocycline pigmentation is harmless although it can be cosmetically undesirable. Guest guest
Thanks, Chris. I'm interested in hearing from anyone who used Vit. C successfully and at what dose. I'm glad to know the hyperpigmentation is harmless. " Cosmetically undesirable " --I think that ought to be listed as a common side effect of RA in general. > Re: rheumatic hyperpigmentation > > > > > > Dr. Graham Chiu mentioned a study about vitamin C preventing/reversing > minocycline > > hyperpigmentation and some of this group tried it successfully. Vit. K is inexpensive to buy and certainly worth the effort to keep the problem at bay. Guest guest
, I just wanted to welcome you to the group, I hope that you find the support and encouragement that I have seen here by so many people. Many people here if you have a question and they do not know the answer then they do their best to try to find out the answer or get you headed in the right direction!! This is really a good group even when we disagree... we all have a common factor that brings us together. You have the same name as my youngest daughter, she is my special Angel though she gets grumpy when Mom shops for too long and she gets hungry.... I saw that you were in Kansas, I use to live in AR and my husband and I made some trips up in Kansas for meetings. I can not remember the name of the town we were in but it we went over to Heston College for the meetings so what ever town that is in is where we had to go!! Peace, Sherry Hi- I've been on AP since Jan (this year), so I'm new. I had forgotten about the hyperpigmentation. Do you all recommend Vitamin K as a preventative, or only if hyperpigmentation occurs? I don't have it. Just wondering if I should be taking Vit. K. Thanks, in Kansas. Guest guest
a book I have says alfalfa is a good source of vit. k. alfalfa is what they sometimes derrive chloroplex or chlorella from isn't it? I know you can buy alfalfa concentrate and it may (should have) additional benefits like a cleansing action. kathy ps sandra I assume you saw Lyns abstract on scleroderma that linked lyme as a possible cause. if not check it out and check out alternative medicine magazine may issue or see posting of the article for more info on Lyme. rheumatic hyperpigmentation >> > >> > Hi- >> > I've been on AP since Jan (this year), so I'm new. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for your input on Vitamin K and the stuff about Vitamin C. I'm looking into both--and going to be careful not to get too much K. in KS rheumatic hyperpigmentation > >> > > >> > Hi- > >> > I've been on AP since Jan (this year), so I'm new. Guest guest
I haven't had any hyperpigmentation and wasn't even aware that it was a problem. I take 4,000 mg of Vitamin C a day. Dee

I was looking into this a few months ago. You may want to look back in the archives to see what was said about it here. Basically, my son has a diamond-shaped spot on his bicep that comes and goes. I had read that arsenic toxicity could cause teardrop-shaped marks and that's what got my attention. I'm taking my son to a dermatoligist next week just to be safe. You may want to also go to a search engine like google.com and type in hyperpigmentation and heavy metal toxicity or arsenic and see what pops up. This can also be due to ACTH (adrenal stimulating hormone the brain releases) going really really high because the adrenals are half dead. Andy . .. . . . . Guest guest
Kenda, I have been through so many hormone panels, we have been through tons of fertility testing etc. Did your sister's go away after pregnancy? Guest guest
Hi Traci, I think I am going to make an appointment with my dermatologist to see what I can do about mine. I am sure mine comes from implants sickness, a bad thyroid, infertility doctors messing with my hormones and finally I am sure I have adrenal and MSH issues. My skin doesn't have a chance until I can get a good balance in my body. Getting implants was the worst pain I ever felt. I had mine through my belly button. It felt and looked like somebody beat the crap out of me, my stomach was every color in the rainbow and my breast were swollen so bad that I couldn't breathe. It was horrible. Explant was a breeze and the drains weren't bad at all. I know you'll do fine, you have such a positive and optomistic outlook.
