I dont have an XP computer to look at anymore but I believe in the control panel you go to add/remove programs and then one of the tabs on the left of the screen is " select windows programs to install " or something like that.  Click on that and it brings up the variety of windows programs of which fax is one

CAn someone help me with reinstalling the software for fax modem for Windows XP?   It stopped working properly

so, at a suggestion of the Windows help blog,  I uninstalled it and now cannot get it reinstalled.   Ugh !

Ron,There is something screwy about the Windows XP fax; I was never able to get it to work.....if 's suggestion doesn't work, you can Google it and get all kinds of bizarre little resets to try.  There is some known bug though.  I hope you have better luck than I did.  (I ended up using my Brother printer via wireless network and Onebox internet fax).

Sharon,  the kicker is that I have been successfully using Windows fax for over a year and

it has worked great...  until 3 days ago, then about 2 of 3 gave the message " fax failed... "   I was happy as a clam with it until...

When you send to Brother,  what does the Brother do with it?  Send it on to Onebox?

Hey did you try a good old system restore prior to the removal? And even if you didn't, why don't you try a system restore a day or two prior to the day it went screwy on you??? You may be pleasantly suprised... Good luck.

I love UpDox, which gives me a "paper-handling" software and internet fax service that jives directly with Amazing Charts. Lynn Ho uses this. It costs me $35/month -- avoids the extra phone line -- internet based, so there's nothing to break. Can send faxes directly to the right import category in AC, to the patient with a note, to a specialist or other provider with a note, all from one page.

Deanna, FNP

this is what I had used as instructionshttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/306550 says onit. and it was a breeze.( for once in my life!) I think there is a service pack 3.. I will have to go find my own disc and see what it s. Jeez I am sorry for the troubleFor 3monsth now I have had endless endless computer gremlins. if you are desperatet for faxing i mean you can use that paper stuff :) or get e -fax at 10.00/mo pretty simple and works well need internet no modem though is needed.

There's been a lot of discussion on the ecw user boards about

Windows Fax problems.

The consensus there seems is that Windows Server 2008 is far more

reliable for faxing than Windows XP.  It also has a number of fax

features lacking in Windows XP or 7.

For small offices with less than 5 or 15 users, several folks had

recommended Windows

Foundation Server as a low cost option.  It looks like you can

buy the OS for about $ 225-260 or a small server (if you're due for

a new PC anyway) for around $800 with the OS included.

Windows foundation server should not be available on its own ... it needs to be bundled in with a low end server.

Ron,

Yes it should. So if your problems only started up recently you should be able to do a restore to a date before the computer's misbehavior and get your system back to where it was.... Big secondary suggestion here as I am having a video issue right now myself.... I did a restore back to prior to problem, and I installed updated drivers from the Dell website twice for my Latitude D830's Nvida card and still having problems. I am about to submit a problem to Dell and get service to take a look at it because after all this I am pretty convinced I have a hardware problem instead of a software issue at this point. When the computer is left on especially with the brower left open, video falls apart to super low grainy quality and the machine totally freezes up too and nothing but a hard reboot will solve it... And the machine's fan is wailing away too with excessive heat so something is really amiss here... So also try a newest drive

install for your fax modem card and don't rule out hardware failures also.... Can happen...

Best of Luck....

,  I clicked on all days in Jan prior to 6th,  but they are available as restore points apparently.  Is it possible that the system restore is not turned on?   Does the machine select restore points automatically?

Ron,

If you notice some dates are thicker and darker than others, those are the only days when so sort of a system back up was made based on setting in windows you may or may not have played with so long ago. So obviously you need to choose a restore date that is of the heavier font kind and read what comes up because you may or may NOT read something useful. There are usually short descriptions of the restore point and why it was made... " System Check " or Windows Update kind of a thing. You may notice something that may logically be related to your problem or NOT.... Don't go back more than a few days to a few weeks prior to your problem at some point too much has changed and the tenticles of windows are now way too off base from that older configuration for the program to cope with... I did that to myself once and it was a nightmare getting the computer straight again. I believe in the end I actually had no choice to wipe and re-load...

Major suggestion to one and all who are not in the habit. It is NEVER a bad idea to create a restore point prior to installing new software and other system invassive things... Just In Case.... This way if you computer Chokes on the install you can probably undo most of the damage get back to a fairly healthy normal state again... Take it for what it is worth.... Good Luck.

,  when I call up the System Restore wizard and try to run it,  I get the calendar to select a restore date (see attachment) but

cant get the calendar to respond to a click on Jan 3 or 4 date to restore to.  Any suggestions?

So also try a newest drive install for your fax modem card and don't rule out hardware failures also.... Can happen...

Best of Luck....

,  will the restore  pull back the uninstalled  Wndows Fax also?    Good idea, thanks.

Hey did you try a good old system restore prior to the removal? And even if you didn't, why don't you try a system restore a day or two prior to the day it went screwy on you??? You may be pleasantly suprised... Good luck.

Ron,

There is something screwy about the Windows XP fax; I was never able to get it to work.....if 's suggestion doesn't work, you can Google it and get all kinds of bizarre little resets to try.  There is some known bug though.  I hope you have better luck than I did.  (I ended up using my Brother printer via wireless network and Onebox internet fax).

right You need your disc though( OS disc) ,  then  as says  it is " add/remove  windows components " Jean

Ugh !
