Guest guest
Hi , It is people like you who can show the newbies like me how to live with this without it taking over my whole life. Since it is new to me having a "safe" place to vent is helpful. I am sure you are tired of reading those emails after all these years. Being beloved and validated is the first step towards living a "normal" life with this diagnosis. Now I have two life altering challenges and plenty to vent about after just getting one under control. Please do share what has worked. Please don't be annoyed by my needed vents as I discover what this new diagnosis means. Moving forward can occur one the anger phase has happened, for me, that is. So glad you can be an example for many. prn Moving Forward Finding this forum on 4S/Misophonia has helped me immensely, mostly from knowing that I am not the only one in world that has this problem. For over 40 years I thought I was some unique nut who lived in a secret world of avoidance of irritating sounds/visual sensitivities. When I showed my family some of the emails from the site it immediately reduced their anger and resentment towards me. They now knew I had a problem that I could not control by “ just ignoring it “ and there are many people who suffer from this. Although this did nothing to help me with 4S/Misophonia sensitivities it did bring a “ buy in “ from my family, they now felt more compelled to REMBEBER to stop snapping gum or twirling hair in front of me. They seemed less resentful and more sensitive to my problem. I found this forum about 3 1/2 years ago and have received thousands of emails. I tend not to read the ones from those who are just looking to vent, I find ( for myself ) it reminds me of my problem and only seems to exacerbate it. I’m interested in finding solutions to our problem and indentifying the real causes. I have heard many theories and interpretations on the root cause of 4S/Misophonia and believe that it has nothing to do with our hearing and ALL to do with our brain. I have read how some people have super sensitive, acute and bionic hearing, although these are nice descriptions, that’s all they are. Most of us have visual as well as hearing sensitivities, so logically then we must then have super sensitive, acute and bionic vision. For example: the pen clicking which sounds just like gum snapping DOES NOT BOTHER ME. Also, Nails on a blackboard DOES NOT BOTHER ME – it annoys most people without 4S/Misophonia – even the thought of Nails on a blackboard is annoying to some. I have learned that although we all have 4S/Misophonia the amount of irritating sounds and visual sensitivities varies greatly amongst us. I recently read found success from her chiropractor, while others who went to a chiropractor found no relief. Simply put, I believe our problem is rooted in Anxiety and needing to Control our surroundings, after reading hundreds of emails I could not find ANY common cause. There are people from many countries, ages and backgrounds with 4S/Misophonia. I look forward to other reasonable interpretations and helpful suggestions to help mitigate the irritations we suffer from and hopefully find the causes and cures. Guest guest
I feel the same way. I understand where venting can lay heavy on someone, but where else do you go if you can't get out what has been kept up inside all these years, if not on a site like this; as well as giving and getting information. To: Soundsensitivity Sent: Sun, November 27, 2011 12:13:53 PMSubject: Re: Moving Forward "being believed" not beloved...but that helps too~ Moving Forward Finding this forum on 4S/Misophonia has helped me immensely, mostly from knowing that I am not the only one in world that has this problem. Guest guest
I agree! Simply finding this forum has helped me know that I'm not crazy and that there's some justification in what's going on. I'm fairly new to proactively trying to do something to treat my Misophonia, but I recently found that hypnosis can help a lot in minimizing the rush of emotion that comes after a visual or audio trigger. I wasn't sure hypnosis would be effective, but I found a short audio clip online that was just a sample from what a full hypnosis session could be and the next day was one of my least stressful days in 3 years@ Here's the link: http://www.uncommonhelp.me/articles/overcome-noise-sensitivity/ It includes some tips that I'm sure a lot of us are aware of, but there's an audio clip towards the bottom and I suggest trying that out! It worked periodically for me, so it never hurts to try. > > Finding this forum on 4S/Misophonia has helped me immensely, mostly from knowing that I am not the only one in world that has this problem. Guest guest
I can't read the venting messages. They just remind me of what bothers me and then the thought of that noise or anticipation of it freaks me out. I'm finding I have a lot of visual stimuli as well as the sound.. so if I see someone even put a stick of gum in their mouth, i freak out.. same with if they put their hands in their pocket because jingling pocket change is one of my noises... ANYWHO... I was thinking about the past 5 years and I've been really focused on losing weight & becoming healthy. However over the past 6 months I've moved in w/ my boyfriend, had some plastic surgery to remove excess skin & some of my boyfriends ex-gf drama issues - sooo.. there's been a lot of stress in my life and i've noticed that my sensitivity has " flared " back up... It seems to be a big issue when I'm really stressed. But if I'm working out & eating right, then I'm less stressed & the noises aren't as bad to me. Very interesting discovery for me!!!
