Guest guest
Hi Liz, I have the same problem, when the Lyme first hit me, my hair was falling out in clumps it was so scary, I now have areas on my head where there's bald spots where the hair never grew back, I've had my thyroid checked they say it's ok, I know it's not. My hair is now very brittle, has no shine, very thin, my skin is dry, my nails are brittle , I contribute all of this to hormonal issues. I also was in my mid 40's when this hit me (I wasn't even peri-meno. at that time) and my dr. said I had at least 5 - 7 years more before I would be in full menopause, but I got thrown into it immediately when I got sick, I never even went thru menopause. I've come to the realization that the hair is not going to grow back, I style my hair and pull it back into buns, pony tails, etc, if a bald area is showing, I pull the hair over it and apply some hair spray or gel, etc., some women have hair weaved into the bald areas to give it more fullness, some even have hair transplants where they harvest some hair from the nape of the neck and fill in the bald areas. I feel I'm one of the lucky one's that can still walk, and hold down a job, as difficult as it can be sometimes because of all the pain/fatigue I'm having, but I'm still one of the lucky one's, and I'm very thankful and blessed. I've been on years of abx's and I sometimes wonder if that contributed to the factor of losing/halting the regrowth, I guess I'll never know. Hang in there, you're not alone. It stopped for a week or so but then started again. My LLMD told me I needed to resume HRT and this would help my hair loss and night sweats. I have been back on it for about a week and no changes yet. It seems to come out worse when I wash it. I have been trying to wash the hair less and wear more hats. I am also taking iron supps and my ferritin was really low, which can also cause hair loss. I have been on thyroid meds for about 2 years now...so I dont think it is my thyroid, but low thyroid can also be a culprit for hair loss. Bonnie To: Lyme_and_Rife From: starlightvisions@... I was having the same problems but the hair loss has been reduced since I've been on thyroid medication. Having said that, I've still have some periods of hair loss even when I was taking thyroid meds so it may just be one of the other lovely consequences of having this disease. And I've learned that trying to find a good doctor to treat your thyroid issues appropriately is almost as hard as trying to find a good LLMD. A lot of them want to treat you only on the basis of your numbers and not on the basis of how you feel. Good luck. Sally A. I use to have very thick long hair, and I am actually losing it in clumps. I am afraid to comb it or wash it, and it is just literally coming out!! This is worrying me. I am treating lyme naturally now for 6 weeks. From June to the beginning of Aug, (approx) 2 month I was being treated in AZ by a dr there ....by IV zithromax, EDTA, and some alternative methods. What causes all this hair loss and what can I do from losing anymore?
