Hi Ron,

Your post is very inspiring!!! Actually I am very frustrated with my

results currently but I have decided to stick to BFL no matter what! Actually me

and my girlfriend have been on BFL for the last 5 months now and sadly I have

only lost 10-12 pounds in all these months and whats even sadder is that my

girlfriend has not lost any weight at all !!!!

Its really frustrating. We are doing everything we are supoosed to do

and she is not losing any weight! She is very frustrated and she keeps reading

these magazines where they show photos of women who lost so many pounds over 6

months and she gets all the more upset. I mean 5 months of hardwork and no

results IS very disappointing.

I read hussman.org resgularly, over and over again and I enter our daily food

intake on fitday.com religiously, to keep track of calories and believe me, the

way the numbers show up , she should be losing at least a pound a week. But in

reality she is not losing any weight. Even with my intake , according to

hussman.org , I should be losing 1.5 pounds a week but I am barely losing a

pound a month!! I dont know whats wrong!

I was 202-204 pounds when I started and I am at 188-189 pounds right now

and my weight is just not coming off. Same is the case with body fat. My body

fat is also not decreasing as fast as it should.

Although I am hell bent on making BFL work and I intend to stick with this

plan, I cannot say the same for my girlfriend. I feel that if she doesnt see any

results soon , she might quit..and I wont blame her. Even Bill says in

the book that if something is not working for you even after 3 months then you

oughta change the plan.

What are we doing wrong here ??? We eat 6 small meals and we workout in

the evenings. We do give 3 hours between our last meal and our aerobic workout

and we also wait at least 1 hour after our workout to take our next meal. We

have not been pigging out extensively on the free day either. So I really have

nothing left to convince her with... She is 152 pounds and would love it even

she just lost 10 pounds.

While I realise that weight comes off faster if you are really

overweight i,e greater than say 250 lbs...cos most of it is water retention and

will come off as soon as you cut the carbs...It still does not explain why we

are not losing as much weight as we are supposed to.

Can anyone else chip in with their experience ???Have any of you faced

this problem ?? And did you solve it ??? Please help us! As hussman said

" Nothing can beat the combination of calorie deficit and intense workouts and

you WILL lose weight! " ...well...that means we ARE doing something wrong then ,

huh???

One thing I read from Ron's post is that I should keep changing my

workout so that the body will not adapt to to the workout, cos all we have been

doing is jogging on the trademill during our aerobic workouts.

If you guys have any other suggestions , please send them!!

My name is Ron I'm 42years and 5'11 I have been a lurking for the

past 10 month's. Now

that it's Oct. I checked my weight just on the scale (still waiting

for the fat calipers to show up) I'm 163lbs. But I came from 248lbs

last December and a waist of 44inchs. Now 32 waist 41 chest.

85 lbs gone in 10 months not bad, although I still have some

frustrating fat to get off. That will take some more time as I still

am learning.

I'm not sure if I have any good suggestions, but here are some

questions to ask yourself.

Has she seen any positive changes? Better sleep? More energy?

Strength gains? These might be motivations for continuing?

Have you double-checked portion sizes?

Perhaps, you are both gaining muscle?

Are you truly hitting your 10s?

Are you doing the 20 MAS on the treadmill or just jogging? You could

also try HIIT for a change.

You could also try posting your menus with portion sizes and maybe we

could see if there is something there you need to look at.

Hi Andy,

-> I think in terms of positive changes, I guess the only thing she

might have seen is stregth gain.In my case, I see a lot of muscle

definition, stregth gain etc.

->Regarding portion sizes, yes, I have kind of become fanatical about

portion sizes...I read each and every label to see how much quantity

should be had to fit BFL standards.If we are indeed making a

mistake , we might be erring on the side of protein, but definitely

not on the carb side.

->I am surely gaining SOME muscle but I would like see too some kinda

change on the scale too...as for her..even if she were to gain

muscle , she surely would lose some fat , dont you think???

->In weight training I am sure we are at least hitting 9.5s if not

10s...But we are pretty close, I think...

->We are definitely doing 20 MAS to the T....and this is where I am

definitely hitting 10s...and this is one of those areas where I have

made tremendous improvemnts in speed in last 5 months.

->Posting portion sizes..here's my menu from yesterday :

Meal 1 -> Protein shake with 1/2 cup milk(skim) + 1/2 cup water

1 cup cereal + 1/2 cup milk(skim)

Meal 2 -> 5 oz chicken breast + sweet potato + veggies

(squash,onions,tomatoes)

Meal 3 -> 1/2 cup cottage cheese + fatfree yogurt

Meal 4 -> 1/2 cup cottage cheese + fatfree yogurt

Meal 5 -> Protein shake with 1/2 cup milk(skim) + 1/2 cup water

1 cup cereal + 1/2 cup milk(skim)

Meal 6 -> 4-5 oz chicken breast + 1/4 cup beans + salsa

Andy,

Could you post your menu please??? And could you also please

tell me your currrent weight and the amount of calories you are

taking ??I know , that your goal is muscle gain not fat loss, but it

would still be interesting to see if I am eating the wrong stuff.

Also , what is the typical weight loss people have seen per

challenge ??? Again, I know that as one approaches lower levels of

body fat , the fat loss will become even slower...

Hi Harsh,

It sure didn't seem like I was setting any records losing weight

in the beginning either.

Hang in there!! something is happening... if your eating the correct

portion sizes,Eating every 2.5 to 3 hours, The Authorized foods and

Hitting your 10's. There is something going on believe me it is

subtle at times, But then you notice things wow my bench press just

went up or the day I ran a mile in 8.5 mins. Blowing open a new Ron

record for my 20min cardio. or I have to tighten this belt again!!

Drink lots of water!!! Even beyond 2 glasses per meal I carry around

and old 2 liter pop bottle I fill that a couple of times a day.

Look over everything, since your writing down everything you eat

and everything you do in regards to workouts per the program. Look

for success's anything that has changed not just the weight.

2 things I'm doing you mentioned one is work out in the morning.

second is riding a stationary bike along with running.

Make you goals high enough to make you stretch yourself as to not

slip into a comport zone.

It sure didn't seem like I was setting any records losing weight

Hang in there!! something is happening... if your eating the correct

portion sizes,Eating every 2.5 to 3 hours, The Authorized foods and

Hitting your 10's. There is something going on believe me it is

subtle at times, But then you notice things wow my bench press just

went up or the day I ran a mile in 8.5 mins. Blowing open a new Ron

record for my 20min cardio. or I have to tighten this belt again!!

Drink lots of water!!! Even beyond 2 glasses per meal I carry around

and old 2 liter pop bottle I fill that a couple of times a day.

Look over everything, since your writing down everything you eat

and everything you do in regards to workouts per the program. Look

for success's anything that has changed not just the weight.

2 things I'm doing you mentioned one is work out in the morning.

second is riding a stationary bike along with running.

Make you goals high enough to make you stretch yourself as to not

slip into a comport zone.

As hussman said " Nothing can beat the combination of calorie deficit

and intense workouts and you WILL lose weight! " ...well...that means

Shakes and Meal Replacement Bars and their whey protein powder is

low-carb too.

It's not uncommon for women to be a little more insulin-resistant

than men (because of high estrogen levels), and many of us fine that

reduces carbohydrate does the trick.

As for your menu, I don't think you are eating too much for 188 lbs

to lose fat. I wouldn't go any lower caloriewise. However, I think

your fat intake may be too low. There is 9 calories per gm of fat so

18 gm of fat is 162 calories from fat which is only 10.6% of total

daily calories from fat.

If you eat too little fat, your body can go into starvation mode,

hang onto your fat stores, and you won't lose fat.

I would add 1 tbsp UDOs oil or flax oil to your diet. That would add

14 gm fat and get your fat intake up to 17.6%.

What does everyone else think? Is his fat intake of 10.6% too low?

loss week. I would eat about 500 more calories per week for muscle

gain.

Post workout meal-protein powder shake, 1 tbsp flax oil (240 cal)

M1-Oatmeal, protein powder, peanut butter (320 cal)

M2-1 c low fat cottage cheese, 1 lg apple (240 cal)

M3-2 slices whole wheat toast, 5 oz tuna, veggie mix lettuce, 1 tsp

olive oil (320 cal)

M4-1 c low fat cottage cheese, 1 lg apple (240 cal)

M5-Turkey Chili, contains (4-oz lean ground turkey, corn, beans,

seasoning) (320 cal)

M6-1/2 Myoplex, 1/2 c cottage cheese, 1/2 tbsp peanut butter (225 cal)

Total Calories: 1905

~Fat=41 gm (19.4%)

~prot=180 gm (37.8%)

~carb=204 gm (42.8%)

I don't think you are eating the wrong stuff, but I think you aren't

getting enough fat. Notice the little opportunities (flax oil,

peanut butter, olive oil) I took to add fat to my meals since many of

them are low fat.

I agree. Low fat not only induces a " starvation " mechanism, it also

interferes with optimal hormone production. Dropping to 10% or less

can actually reduce testosterone levels. Personally I have found that

1 tbsp of flaxseed or some other healthy fat (even olive oil on

occassion) along with 1000mg of fish oil caps daily works wonders.

Yes, I would try to aim for 15-20% fat.

I take 2 Fish Oil SoftGels per day and those aren't much fat so I

also take the flax or UDOs (I alternate). You could add a few nuts

as well.

Yes, I would try to aim for 15-20% fat.

I use almonds too as well as other types of nuts on occasion.

I also like Mighty-Mo-Munchies soynuts. I haven't found any other

soynuts that I find worth eating.
