Guest guest
Hi! And welcome. You're in good company here. I'm 56 and I have had 4S since I was 12 too. My 17 year old daughter has it as well, but my other daughter doesn't. So you are DEFINITELY not alone. > > Hi - I found this site 3 days ago after typing into Google " why do smacking sounds make me crazy " and I found this site. > > I have to have the remote in my hand and my finger on mute just in case there is eating, gum chewing or kissing. > > I have had this since I was 12 and I am 54. Guest guest
I think this totally could be related to your addiction. I know that many sufferers in this group have turned to alcohol because it lessens the symptoms, so I'm sure pain pills probably do some numbing also. We need research--I think 4s causes so many problems--abuse of alcohol, drugs, emotional and physical abuse, there has been suicides related to it, and I'm sure there are probably many murders related to it. Not to mention thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of people who are suffering and not having the relationships with their families and friends that they could be having, not living the lives they should/could be living!! I find it completely sad and frustrating!! But, you being new to the group, might not no that we do have hope because there is a group--the NIH, National Institute of Health, who has expressed interest in doing research. And with this group, we are getting more known as compared to a few years ago. We just need to keep trying! Guest guest
You are NOT alone. I started using drugs and alcohol at age 13 and didn't hit bottom until almost 30. Then I became anorexic early in sobriety. This condition can really mess with your head, huh? The desperate need to escape, to have control, to maintain control over the rage. So incredible to have a community . . . > > I haven't experienced it to the level you have but I can understand where you are coming from > > welcome > Sent from my BlackBerry® smartphone on 3 > > 4S and Addiction > > Hi - I found this site 3 days ago after typing into Google " why do smacking sounds make me crazy " and I found this site. > > I have to have the remote in my hand and my finger on mute just in case there is eating, gum chewing or kissing. > > I have had this since I was 12 and I am 54. Guest guest
I just read this response...thank you for saying what you've said. I have felt suicidal many times. I believe I posted somewhere that I am glad that I am middle-aged and am nearing the end of my life as I don't/can't live with this much longer. Today is July 4th, and I have decided to stay home alone with my laptop instead of enjoying my daughter and her fiance' at the lake. My 4S is really bad today, and I know I wouldn't be able to handle being too close to people. I feel disabled and I just hate it. When I was using pain pills and numbing out, I COULD handle the mouth sounds, but now I have to " feel " all of my feelings and it's just a drag...haha I sound like such a baby. > > I think this totally could be related to your addiction. Guest guest
I would have loved to have had some beers tonight (better yet opiates.) I hope you are okay. I forced myself to go to the lake and watch the fireworks. I was hyper-aware of everyone around me for about an hour and of course I had a girl sitting close to me smacking on an ice cream cone. I started texting my friends telling them about the smacking girl and it seemed to take a lot of the power out of it. I wasn't nearly as irritated as I normally am. The fireworks were the best Lake Arrowhead has EVER had and I was SO glad I went. I " felt " my feelings and forged through anyway and I'm happy right now. I think this site is greatly helping me. It feels so so good to know that I am not alone. Thank you. > > > > > > I think this totally could be related to your addiction. Guest guest
Hi Teri, I think it's great you forced yourself to go even though you didn't really feel like it at first. This is important I think. This condition rules our lives so much and prevents us from doing things we really enjoy. Once we give in and stop doing those things because of the sounds we hate, it gives even MORE power to those sounds. The fact you went, and stayed even though you were irritated with the ice cream cone, allowed you to take some of that control back. This is what I am leaning along the way... that despite this condition and how horrible it makes us feel, we all survive. We can't let this control us to the point that we stop living our lives the way we want to. I know it sounds hard, but it's possible to still enjoy things... I'm doing it. > The fireworks were the best Lake Arrowhead has EVER had and I was SO glad I went. > > I " felt " my feelings and forged through anyway and I'm happy right now.
