Oh Heidi....I am sooooo sorry to hear that you are in so much pain. I hope

Hi Heidi,

I really know what you are feeling and I hope like my pain did it will go

away after a few horrible days. I do not have a miracle cure for the pain,

but maybe someone on here with a really open-minded gyn close to you could

help. A knowledgeable gyn knows how bad VVS and VV can get and might be

willing to call in a a few days worth of pain killers for you. It is a long

shot, but with pain like that anything is worth a try.

I have been where you are right now. My doctor also would not presribe

anything. She told me to use the Aveeno sitz baths and cool compresses.

When I told her this wasn't working, ISN'T THERE ANYTHING SHE CAN

PRESCRIBE TO MAKE IT FEEL BETTER she said no. Nothing works

instantaneously. So when I get like that I take Xanax. It does not make

the pain lessen but it does make you not care about it as much. I aslo

get out all the goop that has been precribed in the past and use it.

Sometimes the steroid cream helps as it reduces the inflamation. Have

your tried gynecort? You can buy it over the counter.

Heidi please don't give up. Go to that doctors office and DEMAND to be

seen. I have also done this tactic and although I may have to wait I am

always seen.

That sounds exactly like what I get sometimes -- extreme clitoral

pain! Usually all I see too is redness and swelling. I think a lot of

things can cause this... severe allergic reactions, bad yeast with horrible

itching ESPECIALLY if you scratch it!, and oxalate-related flare-ups (which

can cause pain ANYWHERE in the vulvar area). That area has a very dense

network of nerves, and I'm sure I don't have to tell you, it can hurt like

the DICKENS when they're irritated!!

You poor thing!! I'm sorry about the only things I can suggest are

plenty of rest (meaning VERY, very little physical movement for awhile); be

extremely careful with anything that comes in contact with the area

(including tap water); try not to use too many topical things--they can

often make it worse! Aveeno is usually fairly soothing for me, but I make

it into a paste and apply it topically rather than do a sitz bath when

things are really bad. With ibuprofen, I usually had to take about

quadruple the recommended dose to get any kind of painkilling benefit.

Tsk! How RUDE!! But you're probably right; you're a new patient to

him. I'm sure most of can relate to what you're going through, aggravating

as it is. Still, I think I'd consider a change in doctors!

Do you have medical insurance? How about going to minor emergency

and DEMANDING some pain medication?? It's possible they just might know

what VV is! And if they don't, then it's high time they learned!! Or maybe

you could find out where your other doctor is and call them -- it IS an

emergency.

I'm so sorry to hear you're in so much pain! I think we can all

relate, and it really can be seriously frustrating to not get proper medical

attention at times like these! *growl* I wish I could wave a magic wand

and make the pain disappear (don't we all?). I hope this flare-up gets

taken care of and you start feeling better really fast! Meanwhile, although

I'm sure this sounds impossible right now, please try to stay as calm and

relaxed as possible. It's always helped me, even with a 10/10 pain scale

pain level! If nothing else is available or nothing seems to help much (for

awhile), I just lie down, put the rest of the world on hold temporarily

(easier said than done, I'm sure!), do some deep breathing and/or a

relaxation session (at least 20 min) with a good audio tape, drink LOTS of

water, be very careful with foods, try ice and painkillers, and just wait it

out. It's not at all easy, but it always works for me. I also try to keep

the mantra in mind: " This too shall pass. "

I'm sure you're probably reading this later, and hopefully you're

already feeling better! You're in my thoughts. Please write back when

you can and let us know when you're feeling better, okay? (and tell us what

helped!) *hugs*

Ladies,

I'm sorry that the last two messages to and Robin got sent to

the whole list. I'm sitting here in pain trying to catch up on email

and I didn't even look. Hopefully, no harm done as the list seems

relatively quiet today.

Anyway - I will probably be posting to the list less for a little while,

as I can hardly sit. I apologize to those of you who have written me

personally, but I won't be able to get back to you for awhile.

I'm really, really scared. The area of my vulva under my clitoris where

the labia spread open and lead down to the vagina is bright, angry red.

It is also very swollen. I have never noticed pain or redness in that

area before. It hurts like hell. Even ice barely helps. The vestibule

is also red and swollen. I have no discharge, no lesions, just the

redness and inflammation. Just horrible stabbing, scratching, raw pain.

I have never had constant horrible pain like this before. I can't wear

panties, can hardly walk, can hardly even stand. I've tried almost

everything: aveeno, aloe vera from the plant, vaseline, A & D, ice, heat,

ibuprofen.

The worst part is - and I'm crying as I type this - I couldn't get my

new general practitioner to prescribe anything for the pain. I've only

seen him once, so I suppose he thinks he doesn't know me well enough but

the jerk wouldn't even fit me into his schedule or talk to me on the

phone. My husband was screaming at the nurses, and then the office

manager - but still no result.

I called my old clinic, but my doctor from there is out of town. My

Heidi,

Do you have a GYN doctor? Or is that who you called? If that does not work,

you need to go to the emergency room! That is awful that your doctor will not

give you anything for pain. I would keep calling and if that does not work go

to the emergency room! This is awful the way they are treating you. No one

should have to suffer like this! PLEASE go to the emergency

room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You need to get something for pain!!!!!!!!!!

My dear friends:

It is 3:30 in the morning here and I just returned from ER. This will

be short - but I want to thank all of you for your prayers and the

suggestion to go to ER.

I waited for 4 hours to see a doctor, but it was worth it. He was kind

and gentle and gave me 24 Vicodin, along with an anti-histamine to try.

I was negative for the UA and yeast culture, pH was normal. He said I

need to call the GYN on Monday and say that he told me I needed to be

seen early next week. I'm so glad I went.

I am thinking of you all and already feel better just knowing that I

have pain pills floating around in my system ready to deliver some

relief eventually. You all are so dear to my heart and I cherish each

of you.

I will give more info when I'm feleing better. For now, though, I leave

you in the capable hands of my trusted co-moderator.

Heidi,

Hope the trip to the emergency room and the vicodine helps.

I think if I were you I would establish a relationship with a gyn or gyn

group where someone will be there when you need them. I used my gyn as my

primary care for a year and a half and with my endo treatment, then the

hysterectomy, and then the v v s. I established a relationship with both my

doctor and the office staff. They knew I needed to be seen when I called and

would work me in within my schedule constraints. My doctor also spent the

amount of time I needed with me when I went in in obvious pain and set up the

diagnostic procedures I needed as well as a consult with a urologist the same

day. I also got treated well by the service when I called about an antibiotic

reaction to erythromycin, which he had prescribed for strep throat. I got a

call back and a new prescription from one of the doctors in his oncall pool,

who did not even practice out of his office.

Given the unpredictable, up and down nature of v v s, ic, and

fibromyalgia, I think a good relationship with a caring, knowledgable

physician or group of physicians is crucial. I would encourage anyone on list

to write a letter to any doctor who they feel has been less than adequate and

foward it to the county medical association and the state board. One letter

may or may not impact directly on the doctor but many written by different

patients about the same doctor just might. It is also a help to be able to

vent your frustrations and then move on to do what you have to do for

yourself.

Get an appointment with your gyn as soon as possible on Monday and go

from there. I hope the vicodine keeps you comfortable for the weekend. Deb
