Most use the antioxidant vit. e at 1% added to the volatile oils as far as I know. Hi Bobbie, I'm using Tetrasodium EDTA--Versene 100. It's a heavy, alkaline liquid. Versene 100 works well in formulations across a wide range of pH. To be honest, I add it as I was told to do it years back--which is to add it to the soap pot by weight of the entire batch. I've never seen this method listed anywhere, but it seems to work ok. They don't give good instructions on the recommended percentages for tetrasodium EDTA or disodium EDTA....at least I have not seen them either. Maybe someone else has had better luck. A while back, I spent a good amount of time on the website and also the phone trying to get the recommended percentage specifically for Versene 100. No tech person could give me any specifics. Somewhere on the Versene or either the Dow website they mention a general range for all the Versene products, but I could not find it just now. Tetrasodium EDTA is less active than disodium EDTA, so it does not make sense to use them both at the same percentage. The literature on the Versene site does have a chart where it can be calculated, but to be honest it doesn't make sense to me I've pretty much gone with what Steve has recommended. I use about 0.2% of the Versene 100 in soap. If someone can find or calculate specific recommendations on the site, please let us know.
