Liz,

It's a good idea, but unfortunately the pin in my ankle rubs when I walk and I

was told (and feel the pain) to keep it at a minimum. I took up golf and ride

the cart, but even then I have difficulty by the end of 18 rounds (pretty much

because I stink at it and play out of the woods)... :) Sorry to hear about your

shin splints, been there and done that, as I am sure you have as well. You must

really go after those 10s!! :)

Thanks,

Bob

>I am actually cardio challenged for the next couple of weeks at

least because of shin splints. (I pushed those 10's too far.) I am

limited to a stationary bike. I do however (and I don't know if

this will work for you) try to walk alot. And you can use waslking

as your cardio as well. Normal walk for your 5 -brisk walk for your

10.

Bob,

I'll share a little mind game with you. I don't have a physical

limitation so I won't say I know how you feel, but I do go through

periods of depression and thinking " I just can't do it " What I do is

picture someone who has it much worse than me (in my case I usually

think of Reeves) Then I tell myself just how lucky I am

to be able to do what I can. You may not be able to participate in

sports like you used to but you can walk around, hug your wife, use

the restroom without assistance!! It really is just an adjustment in

your thinking process. Try this and see if it helps.

My dh comes home for work everyday & we eat then lift on lifting

fish portions & I also portion out lean ground beef patties. While

the Grill heats up I thaw choice of meat in microwave. Season meat

throw on grill. While meat cooks (5 min) I make whole wheat cous

Hi ,

---Yes, my wife does that....she quits feeling sorry about her diabetes by

saying that there are alot more people out there who would love to be in my

condition. I know we can cope with what God has blessed us with....I reread

(for the umpteenth time) the BFL book last night and I guess I have lost my

future vision.....trying to regroup though and start the program anew as of

today.....I'm one of those types that if I blow the plan, the plan no longer

exists - example, if I go for 5 weeks and do fine, then get sick or some

situation arises that I can't stick with it, the time table is off for the 12

weeks.....I'm trying to readjust my mindset to view it as one lifetime

adjustment to the plan in general, rather than a bunch of 12 weekers......what

do you think?

Thanks,

Bob

I'm trying to readjust my mindset to view it as one lifetime

adjustment to the plan in general, rather than a bunch of 12

weekers......what do you think?

I definately have changed to a lifer! My dh and I officially entered

the contest earlier this year, but when the contest was over we just

kept it up. We still keep to a free day but don't get overly excited

if a wedding or party or whatever comes up. You just keep in the

back of you mind to eat about equal parts of protien & carbs, keep

the fat low. We always go out to eat on our free day so I just don't

have unauthorized food in the house. We really enjoy the strength

training and now that we are in better shape we are able to do more

physical stuff like bike riding and hiking. I will never go back!!

That said, I believe the program is set at 12 weeks so that you can

form a habit, so it does help to be as strict as possible (for that

1st 12 weeks)so that you can form the habit and also so that you

will see results and not give up. If you have a day where you eat

wrong or miss a workout you have to adjust your thinking to realise

that 1 day of bad eating isn't going to undo however many days or

weeks you've aready put into your new life!

I can totally relate to this all or nothing attitude. Are you a

perfectionist in other areas of your life? I know I am. I am now in

week 7, and very proud of my accomplishment - but this time around

(on the " weight loss " train) I think that all or nothing attitude is

helping me. I want to have a perfect 12 weeks, and nothing is

stopping me. Helps to have that one cheat day where I don't have to

be perfect.

>I'm trying to readjust my mindset to view it as one lifetime

I agree with this. But technically, isn't a lifetime basically made

up of a bunch of 12 weekers? So, a " lifetime " could basically just

be challenge after challenge after challenge if you wanted to look at

it that way. But it isn't a challenge if you want to call it a

lifestyle. If that makes any sense? :) Personally, I plan to take

a week off of the workouts (not the nutrition) after a set of 12

weeks, and as for a lifestyle, I probably won't always be in

challenge mentality. Whatever works for you.

-Larissa :)
