Guest guest
What does he do with the " s " cuz I have " s " issues too. It's a regional thing I guess but people in New Jersey and East Pennsylvania definitely do this thing where they add an " h " to " s " words, and I've always hated it. Swedish people sometimes do it too. Like instead of saying " straight " they say " shtraight " , but like if they said " stand " they don't add an " h " . " Shtrong " instead of " strong " but they don't do it with the word " stuff " . Maybe it's only " s-t-r " words? Tyra Banks and Jimmy Kimmel definitely do it, I don't watch her, but I love his show. Some of my Florida friends do this too and it's like a pin sticking me when I hear it. I think it's a perfectionist issue acting out thru 4s maybe? pk > > OMG! I could barely watch the Olympics opening ceremonies last night, and I LOVE that stuff. Bob Costas has the worst s! We even had company, and I had to put an ipod earbud in one ear to at least make it through. It makes me sad that 4s can lessen the enjoyment of things I enjoy. I tried some cbt, but no self talk or relaxation was working at the moment. > > I will have to watch any Olympics that he announces with the tv on mute! > > becki >

Guest guest
Yeah, it may have to do with what you're used to making other people sound " wrong " . I have to admit that I was one of those French students in high school who could never get the accent. Probably has to do with the fact that I'm from Oh-hay-ya (Ohio if you're not a hick!) I think I do much better with Spanish than French. Also since I play(ed) violin I'm used to having to listen to get it in tune. I think the musical ability transfers into real life and I think that people are speaking " out of tune " ...or something like that. I'm still trying to figure it all out. Aren't we all? > > > > > > Some of my Florida friends do this too and it's like a pin sticking me when I hear it. Guest guest
Cedar Point! You'll find most people in the news biz have the same accent as we do. It's the most understandable and least offensive I guess but I don't know how they arrived at that. I wonder if it gave us some accent superiority complex. Oprah is like from Mississippi I think and she has the same accent I do from Detroit. Can't host a show if you sound like Pickler in the U.S.A. I used to play trumpet and one of the grossest things in the world is when someone REALLY needs to empty the spit valve and you can hear it in there! I stopped by high school and switched to guitars. I think part of why we like music is that even though interpretation can be a vast thing, it still all sounds better when in tune. It fits there, everyone likes things to fit somewhere. If only we could fine tune people hm? > > > > > > > > Some of my Florida friends do this too and it's like a pin sticking me when I hear it. Guest guest
HA! too funny. my sister recently started saying " Shweeeet " and it is another great trigger for me. I dont like S's and I dont like " shweeet " but now I notice I do it too (not shweet, but other s words that I may add a h) and now Im annoying myself because Im aware of it and trying not to do it! kinda like not eating my chips too loud. > > > > OMG! Guest guest
LMFAO!!!!! I never saw all of Willie Wonka with him – just walked in and out when my kids were watching. But now that you mention it I do recall a similarity to Channing. Beat him with his fake teeth .. .GREAT ONE! But Carol Channing is one of the worst. I love ny Depp but he adopted the Carol Channing persona for Willy Wonka and I wanted to beat him to death with his fake teeth. > > > > OMG! Guest guest
You're right, I've always thought we had pretty " neutral " accents. But I'm sure people from Jersey and New England would beg to differ (after all isn't it an AR-rang and not an orange, or even an oranch? lol) I think just about everyone I've known from MI has had a lot of enthusiasm...is it something in the water? Thanks for your good sense of humor! Yes, you really should be a writer (I think that was you). CL > > > Cedar Point! You'll find most people in the news biz have the same accent as we do. Guest guest
yes, Carol Channing is bad. I think Connery is just as bad, though. I do know that I used to watch Connery and not have a problem - maybe 10 years ago that one got me. My mom used to do an " sh " s sound when she sang country music out loud when I was a kid. That drove me bonkers! Now it's Celine Dion, Tripp on CSI: Miami, Reba McIntyre, McCain (thank god he didn't get elected). It's not just inaccurate stuff, like nuclear with good old . It's just the sound - and I started noticing it/getting triggered by my own loving husband with it this fall. That's the hardest thing. I'm trying to handle it - but I can't mute him like I can the tv. Tough.
Guest guest
Thanks yeah it was me. Jersey, oy how they say " golf " " GALF " heheh, I don't find it so much ear stabbing as bizarrely entertaining, but I couldn't surround myself with that. Can you imagine a newscaster from Boston? That would be hilarious " There was a wicked ass cah accident on NE Boulev-odd, it was ahsome! " I'd watch that. Maybe there is something in the waters of Michigan. > > > > > > Cedar Point! Guest guest
His makes me laugh, but I could never live with it. I've always said if I ever meet him, I would ask him to say " Nova Scotia " . He'd probably hit me, but I'd do it anyways. Penelope Cruz has it too. Loads of country singers do, it's no wonder I've always hated that genre of music. Old beaver cartoons always had the beavers talk like that too. Of course there's " Schwing " from Wayne's World, but meh, doesn't bug me. > > yes, Carol Channing is bad. I think Connery is just as bad, though.
