Morning,

If our patients live more than a certain amount of miles away, we do ask that they stay in town for the first two weeks post transplant for all their clinic visits. We do not pay this for the patient. We provide resources like fundraising to them. Our local hotel also provides a 50% discount when they are getting any medical services done at our hospital.

Hope this helps!Sam

If we ask a patient to stay in a local hotel following transplant for closer observation (infusion, labs, etc) can we include this cost in our Cost Report? I assume not since this would be post transplant, but I wanted to ask!I am interested to hear if any other centers require their out-of-town patients to stay in a local hotel post discharge. You should also verify as to whether their benefits have travel and lodging reimbursement. Typically our patients from out of town have family members they can stay with but at times there are cases where this does not apply. For our donors we have apartments for them to stay in w/ their caregiver post transplant if they are out of town.
