Gaith,

Tricare would be billed for services that you would otherwise

put to KAQ for a Medicare patient, if your facility bills out services to other

non-Medicare payers.

You are correct, they are a payer of last resort; however, this

relates to having coverage primary to Tricare such as a commercial plan or

Medicare. If Tricare is the sole payer, then they would be billed.

Subject: Tricare question

I was always told that Tricare is another

government agency and therefore we should drop to KAQ instead of Tricare. Even

Tricare states they are the payer of last resort. Can anyone answer this

question or give me a regulation to look up? I have been doing hours of

detective work and not getting any answers. Thanks Gaith
