Guest guest
If the patient has part A they can only sign up for Part B during open enrollment each year. I'm not positive on this, but I was told that you must have both Part A and B "at the time of transplant" to have coverage for anti-rejection medications under Part B. Good luck! Those situations are tricky for sure! The patient has Blue Cross of MN as primary insurance, Medicare A only as secondary and started dialysis 8-15-11. The patient is not willing to apply for Medicare part B because the immuno drugs currently taking because of the lung transplant are being covered under the Blue Cross and she's very comfortable with that. She feels if she apply for Medicare it will not cover as well. The patient status with Medicare is (3) Has or had ESRD but currently covered under DIB. Since the patient status with Medicare is DIB and the patient refuse to take the part B of Medicare, will Blue Cross continue to pay for the immuno drugs or only cover 20% if secondary at the time of transplant? Thanks in advance for any feedback provided.Yolonda , CPARNOVA Transplant Fianacial CoordinatorUniversity Of Alabama Hospital619 19th Street SouthBirmingham, AL 35249-6515 phone fax
Guest guest
The new Renal eligibility provides an opportunity to add Renal A and B now if the pt wants, regardless of their existing Disability entitlement. Part A entitlement alone at the time of transplant secures eligibility for immunos but of course pt needs Part B in place to actually access the benefit. Tricky to say the least! on Transplant Financial Coordinator Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital Legacy Transplant Services 1040 NW 22nd Ave Ste 480 Portland OR 97210 direct main office toll-free fax lmorriso@...
