Guest guest
Dee....I have received some strange mail too. I delete anything where the address doesn't look familiar to me, but it could have been the same things you received. I did receive 2 emails from the list that were full of letters, symbols, numbers, etc. Has anyone else received that kind of mail? Just curious.....Diane
Guest guest
Deb at DLitzfletc@... I do not think I got the virus. It did get several messages that were a gobble de goop of letter, puncuation marks and stuff that did not make any sense.n I paln to go back through my old mail and delete the blank messages. I did download one attachment that says the file is too big for aol to open, to try viewing it on another program. I am not computer literate enough to know how to do that. I also tried to cc a message last night to vulvodyniaonelist and it would not go through. I'm kind of confused about this virus! Deb
Guest guest
Hi everyone, Every once in a while I open an e-mail that is full of numbers, symbols and strange letters. This has been happening for a while. I just assume that something went wrong in the transmission. If I remember correctly, these all came from one of the VV lists I am on. Guest guest
Yes, Diane, I did receive stuff like that too, just a lot of jumbled up letters and numbers, and they were attachments. In fact Maries picture came up that way, but I thought it was just me.., because there were several others. Dee
Guest guest
Marie and others: If you opened the happy99.exe attachment, you are almost certainly infected. You need to get rid of it or it will continue to be a nuisance. It doesn't cause harm to any of your computer files or anything like that, but what it will do is send itself to all the people that you ever email. If they open the attachment, they'll get infected. Go to the first website I listed in my REQUIRED READING post and follow the instructions on how to get rid of it. I don't think that the virus has any ability to do anything like hold onto names and then sell them, but I don't know for sure. I would really doubt it. More likely, you've posted somewhere that someone picked up your name and then probably sold it. I've been getting a lot of junk email for the past month or so. It's highly annoying, but as far as I know there's no way to stop it unless you want to change your email address. Anyway - hope that answers some of the questions/fears, Heidi
Guest guest
When you get an email full of " gobbledeegook " it is *not* a virus or anything like that. Most likely, it has happened to some of you because your email program does not accept HTML messages. For that reason, it's best if nobody sends HTML to the list because their will certainly be people who can't read your messages. Guest guest
HI DEE I'm no computer wizard but I have a friend that is ... And he was here last night..Beacause I was so freaked out about the virus .. HE said the only way you could get this virus was to open it .. IF you did .. then you have it and now have to get rid of it.. We did a search on norton and found that I didn't have this virus ... BUT.. I have AOL as a second server I rearly use it and now i'm going to get rid of it for good ... This is where alot of vieuses come from, because so many kids are on AOL.. when we ran the search we found that I had 2 viruses called trogan horses file name bloodhound that are worse than plain viruses . they take your pin numbers and use them for other things . they both came from AOL .... when Norton searches,, it thells you where it comes from .. I'm going to be off AOL in a flash.. why i'm telling you all this.. is to to make sure that that you update Norton .... when we ran the check without updateing it didn't show the virus .. when we updated it showed 2 .. this friend of mine said NEVER NVER open an attachment that says EXE OR COM. unless you know for sure who its from..
