Guest guest
I hear you, ! It's just outraging, how doctors keep pushing all kinds of bad stuff to children. I also have something on my chest... I cannot stop thinking how unfair it is, that people keep eating all kinds of junk and feed the same to their kids and vaccinate and their kids are so NT! And my handsome boy, my joy, has never eaten fast food, flavorings/colourings, never drank soda etc (except when in my belly, I was so stupid nad poor).... And he has to be on such strict diet and take so many supplements every day... He could've gone to best school and had the best house with his own room on all those money we are spending on supps and docs and organic food and decent water... And instead, we live in 1 bedroom apartment and cannot even afford to buy him extra shirt ... And there are so many kids like him! You all know what I mean... IT'S NOT FAIR!!! Just an observation I know I'm "preaching to the choir" here....I took my 2 yo (NT) for his well baby check up. Our regular dr was out so we saw another. He recommended giving Flintstones multivitamins to my son. I said politely "our family is all off all artificial colorings because they are not good for you, and I know Flintstones has them."He just looked at me like I was weird. Then he changed the subject. And this particular medical practice is VERY open minded and supportive of those who do not vaccinate, or do a very conservative vaccine schedule, so we are blessed in that sense.Whenever my 10 yo ASD son has an infraction with the colorings, like when I had to give him purple cough medicine because he was throwing up from coughing, his behavior went through the roof insane! He had been off the colorings for over a year, and I thought "just a little" wouldn't hurt. Boy did I learn my lesson. But I would have never learned it for sure unless he had that infraction.Yes, I know that not every child responds like this, but most people (and I used to be one of them) listen blindly to whatever the dr says.I just look forward to the day someday when the mainstream medical community will "get" that "garbage in= garbage out" and educate their patients along those lines. I hope we see this in our lifetime. Maybe it's going to have to take the high ranking food and beverage company or FDA executives having children with autism, adhd or other disorders to wake them up and stop poisoning families. Thanks for listening. I had to get that off my chest.Nanci
Guest guest
No, it's not fair, I agree. A few months ago, I read a wonderful article about a mom who had 8 children. All 3 of her boys had autism and the others all had neurological issues. She said that once she stopped saying " Why Me? and instead started saying " Why NOT Me?, her whole attitude changed. She realized that God had purposely chosen her to be these children's mother because she had the fighting spirit to do all she could to make them well. Not every parent of an autistic child has this. And those whose paths are easier with NT children aren't as grateful for the little victories in life, such as when a child has a sudden breakthrough. So since I read the article (I wish it was online, or I would link it), I have started saying " Why NOT me? " and instead of focusing my energy on feeling sorry for myself (not saying that you are doing this, but I was and I was drained), I have so much more energy to focus that fighting spirit in me and find the help I need. I will keep seeking and praying and hoping and sharing everything I learn to help as many people as I can. And I know you do that too. I think everyone in this group has that fighting spirit, and as hard as autism is, we are making a difference and being part of the solution by working together and making connections. Think of the amazing things Tami has done with the LIA foundation! It's always been small groups of dedicated people who change the world. {{{{HUGS}}}}} It's good to have a safe place to share our frustrations Nanci > > I hear you, ! Guest guest
Nanci, AMEN! This is the same for when we can start slowly resenting others even parents with kids with autism for their quick and steady stream of miracles. It's easy to get in that mindset.
