Guest guest
Thanks for the advice and encouragement. I am still pretty new to the group, but you all are awesome. It is great to know there are so many people here for support, advice, and just a shoulder to lean on when needed. I hope you have a wonderful holiday season. May God bless you. Day [sPAM] Holiday helpings Hi group, The winter holidays are some of my favorites and even though my Still's is in remission, I've had it for almost 32 years now and still get tired and somewhat stressed like many. There have been many years that my house was the host house for the events and it can be very hard. Now, as the years have passed and my daughter and most of the family lives away it's usually quiet but still there are things to be done. This year is a bit different for me and my husband because he is having back surgery on December 19th and will be in the hospital several hours away from home. I will be on the road to be with him several times to visit and pick him up and that scares me but I'm sure with luck everything will be fine. I wanted to share that there are things we can do to help relieve the work at the holidays. A couple of things I find helpful are to always have a kitchen stool so I can sit while cooking and doing dishes. Another suggestion is to have a pot luck meal with the family. I also try to make some of my stuffing, yams, deviled egg recipes the day before and then cook off the day of the meal. Another suggestion for help with shopping is to get your family or friends to shop for you. Give them an item off your list and see if they will pick it up while they are out and about. If you shop on the internet there is a site called iGive that has hundreds of stores that will donate a portion of sales to our Still's foundation. You can also use our web site to find a smaller list of donation sites at www.stillsdisease.org These proceeds help fund our web sites, brochures, postal and operating expenses and are greatly appreciated. Many of us are low on funds and I can't help but remember some of the sweetest gifts my mother helped us make when we were young were little booklets of things we would do to help her or my dad, brother and sisters with throughout the year. It works for adults too. Costs nothing but some paper, pens, maybe glitter, lace and love. Another nice tradition for friends is to just have an ornament exchange. I've done this for years now with some special friends and we cherish it. What I'm trying to say is that there are ways to take some of the stresses off and let others help. It's hard to ask but sometimes we even have to do that and I have to say I've rarely been disappointed. I wish you all could have remission but at least pamper yourselves when and where you can and remember you never have to be alone because we are here.
