Guest guest
Our first week on OSR Alot of you have asked us to keep you posted The week before we started the OSR was ' (Age 10 ASD) worst week at school EVER. He had hours each day where he refused to work or put on or take off outside clothes. We tried to adjust his schedule to allow for less transition each day and only lunch recess outside to limit down time from clothing changes. seemed unable to communicate verbally at all. Total words uttered on purpose (not echolalia) seemed to be less than 3 per hour. had migrane like light problems and headaches, he is also cutting his 12 year molars. The molars are pushing through at the back and have not broken the skin yet but it is swollen and red mounds ontop of the emerging teeth that are causing him alot of pain. His teacher called me to ask 'Where is MY , we miss him. " His eye that does not track well was way way way off. We decided not to delay the OSR on the off chance that it helped the situation at all. We started Monday with 50mg once per day at bedtime with other meds including fish oil. Went to 100 mg on Thursday and about 120 mg (2 rounded spoons). He improved within a couple of days from the week before. His teacher stated that he was able to focus for about half the day. One day morning the next afternoon etc. He does not seem to have any trouble with headaches this week but the teeth are bad. I had to resort to giving him advil liquid because he came to me with his mouth open, showing me his teeth then he said ' is sad' and then started to cry. He has been home from school with me for a couple of days. We will try him tomorrow with a dose of advil. I will try to limit the advil as much as possible. If you have any other suggestions please offer. Tried the oraljel, got it in once but he sees it coming now and won't co-operate. I would equate this week with the second week of diflucan/valtrex. It is really hard to put your finger on the gains as communication is so limited but he looks different, he sounds different (less distress in his voice) and he is sitting on the couch for example instead of sprawling on the floor. I think will see the benefits of this treatment in a few months when he can get back outside and the constant sickness season has left us. We started the valtrex in January too and we experienced the same issues last year. The gains where there we just couldn't see them yet if you know what I mean. He comes to us and gives hugs and kisses when he wants something as it is hard for him to say what he wants. He sucks up, it is a nice change from meltdowns, let me tell you! is reading over my shoulder, I just asked him what he wanted me to tell you. He said " is sick today. " I have been taking the OSR at double dose to see the effects and treat my amalgam issues. I get dizzy within about 20 min and continues on and off for about 1-2 hours. Equal to that of the spins you get when you are operating on 4 hours sleep, nothing too major. takes it right before melatonin so he will be asleep for any immediate effects. We have both increased our water intake by 2-3 glasses per day. I have sent water to school with him as well. Will keep you posted on our progress weekly as we ramp up to larger doses. Bye for now Waterloo, Ontario
