Guest guest
Molly, Our son has autism and does have a lot of constipation problems, SCD is not the greatest diet for constipation-in my opinion. Nuts that have been soaked in water remove the phytic acid making them more digestable are a good source of fiber. But GF/CF is important to maintain for all kids with autism. Here are the best tips we use for chronic constipation: Fluid and Fiber and all the things that start with letter P are good, Pear juice from Knudsen's is very good- just mix with a little water. Get it at Whole foods. Pears, prunes, plums, persimmons, papaya, etc..p..p...p..Beware of yeast overgrowth with too much fruit. Use Fresh fruits! Nothing over ripe. Blend in drinks if need be. dried fruits carry lots of yeast and anything dried are dehydrated so need more water to prevent constipation with adding extra fiber. Flax tea is really gentle and nutritional and doesn't usually cause cramps. You can mix in juice. Buy Flax seed and ground in coffee grounder then 2 cups of boiling water steeped over 2 tablespoons of flax seed ground up. Steep for ten minutes and whisk alittle then sift in strainer into glass container--always refrigerator. Flax goes bad fast.. always keep cool the ground seeds and liquid.. Brush creek organic flax seed golden flax seedbuy whole foods. Ground up Flax seed is very good to add into pear as well.. Lots and Lots and Lots of Fluid, double her fluid intake. Especially if she is in school Write notes to teacher -- she gets lots to drink all day! Kirkman labs sells a Powder formula of Magnesium Citrate, hypo allergenic form..mix into baby food pears. We found the enema did not work as fast as the Fleet Liquid Glycerin suppositories, fast acting seconds to use .Easy to squeeze bulb like syringe that squirts liquid in fast does not have to melt or wait.. Green and white box..Be sure to look for the " Liquid Glycerin " suppositories not the solid version.. the box has a picture on the front of a bulb like application..They have blue and white box for children and green for adults. That's the best I can do. Yeast seems to be the primary culprit in constipation for us.. G
