Guest guest
I find the Zinc Picolinate from Thorne's and the Zinc Monomethionine from VRP work very well for me; I like to give two kinds in case they have trouble absorbing one or the other. (Anyone on this list can give VRP my pin # for a discount 211032; I also get Idebenone (biological form of CoQ10) from them as well as Uva Ursi and OptiMag. Guest guest
OK with the risk of sounding mean let me be frank - the Kirkman's liquid zinc product is garbage. It contains sucralose and polysorbate 80. Polysorbate 80 may be contaminated with 1,4-dioxane, a known carcinogen. It has been shown toxic in rat studies. There is also some evidence that this " industrial lubricant " alters the function of drug an nutrient delivery once ingested. I think the hazards of sucralose are well known but if you want to find more you can go to mercola.com and hear Mercola obsess on it. If that does not convince you I would recommend as a precaution that you try a gulp of the Kirkman's liquid zinc yourself. They have changed the formulation but the old product contained zinc sulphate, a form highly irritating to the stomach! The old formula if you tested it yourself it was clear that it would not be well tolerated by someone that has a weak gut. I'm sure the new formula is an improvement but based on the past history I would proceed with caution. I admit being biased against Kirkman's but with so many wonderful supplement providers I still can't figure out why parents are so loyal to a company who continually puts out products with toxic ingredients and then markets itself as pure and hypoallergenic. These products have no interest by anyone whatsoever outside of the specialized communities they have marketed themselves to because the prices are high and the quality is not up to snuff. The zinc monomethionine Dr. M recommends is not as gritty as a lot of other zinc supps and is easy to hide in things. > > > Dr. McCandless, Where do you recommend getting Zinc from, I get > most > > > of my stuff from Kirkman's but I know sometimes you have other > > > suggestions that may work better. Guest guest
Wow, thank you! We have been using Kirkman's zinc for a while now, and yes it is irritating to the stomach. I had no idea about these other issues with it. May I share your post with other newsgroups that I'm on? Guest guest
I like Kirkman's hypoallergenic zinc capsules, which are a combination of zinc citrate and chelate. I take them myself, and they work well for my son. Kirkman's liquid zinc contains sucralose, which is chlorinated sugar. Chlorine is NOT healthy. In some people, sucralose causes diarrhea. I like Kirkman's products, but don't use the ones that contain sucralose. I also avoid sucralose, aspartame, and other artificial sugars. According to Elaine Gottschall of the SCD diet and Dr. Mercola, the safest artificial sugar is saccharin. We don't use any artificial sugars; we use stevia, xylitol, and vegetable glycerine--none of which cause yeast. Here are some links from Dr. Mercola regarding sucralose and why it's NOT good for you: http://www.mercola.com/2000/dec/3/sucralose_dangers.htm http://www.mercola.com/2004/jan/10/splenda_questions.htm http://www.mercola.com/2001/jun/23/chlorine.htm http://www.mercola.com/2000/dec/3/sucralose_testimonials.htm At 01:42 PM 6/3/2005 +0000, you wrote: >Hi, > >Is anyone aware of any drawbacks to using Kirkman's liquid zinc as a >zinc source? Guest guest
Ditto about Kirkman......I am sending the 2 bottles of Zinc back. My son complained about his tummy every time I gave him the liquid zinc from Kirkman's. I have been using zinc picolinate from Cardiovascular Research, containing 185 mg of calcium and 25 mg of zinc. But I thought you were not supposed to give calcium with the zinc. I am in the process of ordering Zinc from Brainchild. Any thoughts? The last Kirkman product I have to replace is TMG. Any suggestions? Guest guest
Life Extension makes good products, and I " m sure theirs is fine. Just wanted to mention that we do sell TMG at Brainchild, in case if saves you shipping, hassle, etc. Ours is of as good or better than the Life Extension in quality, I'm quite sure. It is the best pharmaceutical grade, from Germany, and we bottle it in glass, which is optimal for potency.
