The decon chambers that I have are to eliminate the chances of cross- contamination or the further spread of disease or illness. In the case of mold contamination we would typically have two units on site, one for the remediation of belongings that can be saved and one for the decon and safety of the employees. We use several stages in our decon depending on the situation, typically a hot shower, airwash, Biocide treatment and a drying process. We have had occassion to incoporate Gamma Radiation but only on an extreme case. If anyone is interested I can post pictures.
