Guest guest
Since about a month ago, a niece who stays over regularly has developed a musty like body odor that I seem to be allergic to. I also seem to be the only one that can smell it but my response is so strong to it that I can smell her even walking past or even in a room she's been in. It absorbs into cloth, like cushions, bedding, pillows. At first I thought it was clothes that had gotten musty from staying moist. She washed those clothes & took a shower, & it was fine. Over the last few weekends, she would be OK after clean clothes & shower but by the afternoon the odor would be back. Her feet are the worst & she has to leave her shoes outside. Any ideas of what could be causing this & how to resolve it? -- Marie " I don't think the worst thing that could happen to me is having a child with special needs. Guest guest
Hi Marie, There are a whole host of metabolic disorders that can cause strong body odor and foot odor. Detoxing and chronic systemic candida and other infections can also cause characteristic body odors. I would consider this a significant medical problem and not just a question of hygiene or hormones, and I would strongly suggest she see a metabolic specialist and have complete blood work done. > Since about a month ago, a niece who stays over regularly has developed a > musty like body odor that I seem to be allergic to. Guest guest
My husband sees nothing abnormal about her " odor " but says it's my abnormal sense of smell (hyper) since he can't smell it at all. what do you think, is it my hyper nose or is it my imagination? Guest guest
Hmmm...well, is there anyone else, preferably female, who can corroborate your observations? Males are notoriously lacking in their ability to discern odors. This isn't a judgment, merely an evolutionary fact. I have an extremely sensitive nose, so if I were there, I would be happy to confirm it for you! :-) I would definitely see someone about it, just to be sure it's not simply your imagination. > He wants her to just go see a FP. Guest guest
Well, I know it's not my imagination b/c this person didn't smell like this before. Unfortunately I washed all her bedding & clothing & she's not physically around. I guess I can ask my friend at Thanksgiving if she smells anything. Thanks. Guest guest
If it was your imagination maybe you'd smell it more often - not just with her. I knew one woman who occasionally had a strong body odor. I think it may have been hormonal. It wasn't BO. I think it may have been related to her cycle.
