Guest guest
, I am strongly against noise pollution, however, i don't think that the federal government should be in the business of regulating noise. Noise control is not one of the limited enumerated powers that the constitution grants to the federal government of the United States. This is a local issue. Individuals, groups, municipalities and states must put a stop to noise pollution by complaining about it to the offender as well as to the police. There are already local and state noise ordinances in most parts of the US. The problem is that these laws are not enforced. I find it ironic that they spend billions of dollars building " sound walls " along highways, yet they don't enforce local noise ordinances on motorcycle and car exhaust noise. Many people modify their vehicles' exhaust system illegally to make them louder. Many people install expensive sound systems in their autos with huge speakers and giant amplifiers that produce a " bass thump " that can rattle other cars and houses. They are so loud that they set off burglar alarms and can be heard for blocks. It is up to us individuals to call these " jack-asses " out. More people need to confront these inconsiderate people and not be cowered into silence by political correctness or fear. When I confront them, they curse at me and threaten me as if I were being inconsiderate for telling them how rude they are. The police rarely and selectively enforce these local laws that are already on the books. Mostly because people do not complain about them. Loud motorcycles are considered cool, even by the cops. It is not politically correct to complain about someone who is thought to be " cool " . On the other hand, laws that prohibit smoking in public places are strictly enforced. This is only because smoking is NOT politically correct. Both loud noises and smoking harm the individual and annoy those around him. People who put on rock-concerts and those who attend them regularly develop hearing and stress related problems. Why do they ban smoking in bars but they do not ban loud harmful music at rock concerts. Why do they spend money on sound walls and then allow vehicles to drive through side-streets with thunderous sounds? It drives me nuts. America is failing to provide " equal justice under the law " . We don't need more laws, we need to enforce the laws that we already have. > > Hi, > From a long-time lurker, thought this link may be of interest.
