,

Don't know if this helps or not, but my daughter couldn't tolerate any plant

based enzyme. It irritated her stomach.

BUT, the Jarrow Zymes brand is porcine in origin, and she tolerates that

very

well in low doses.

Yes, of course. My kid couldn't tolerate 2 brands of enzymes we

tried. I am searching for another mild brand. The key is parent has

to find the right enzyme for his/her child. Trial and error is the

only option. This rule applies to all of the supplements. That's why

whereever possible, order the trial/sample packs.

One idea is look for singular enzymes rather than combinations. Your

child may be tolerating to one, but not for others.

Ragha in Charlotte,NC.

HI Limin and All,

I wonder how Pancreatic enzymes work?

I have tried Ultrase for my son, but thought it might be giving him more

constipation??

Moreover, I simply don't understand how PEs(pancreatic enzymes) are going to

survive acidic tummy to reach the pancreas to help in digestion?

Any inputs?

Thanks,

Sasmita

Hi Sasmita

Ultrase -pig bile- has specially designed coating to allow it to pass thru the

stomach without getting broken down by the acid. I do not know the

details that allows this to be accomplished.

I was told it cannot be compounded. It has a lot of junk fillers not to mention the

gigantic ULTRASE written with some horrible chemical on the capsules. You cant

really take that print off cos it affects the capsule/special coating. You can open the

capsule and use the contents, but that will affect absorption and we still get to

consume all the junk except the gigantic print.

Constipation is a common side effect probably becos it changes the

digestion or maybe dose is not exactly right. But as long as constipation

is addressed by other ways and its not a major ongoing problem, it should

be ok.

I got Ultrase from my DAN but stopped it cos I didnt like the contents. I then

got Ursodiol - bear bile (yeah, cant leave any animal live in peace) - from DK.

This can be compounded to avoid junk.

Not too sure about cost, both were covered by my insurance and I dont remember

co pay amount.
