any connections with birth control pills?

Our 20-year old daughter was just diagnosed (by elimination testing). She just

happened to recently also have troubles with the new bc pills called " yaz " ..

Has anyone had any connections with this? She just changed to a lower-dose

hormone pill called " alesse " , but I wonder..

I've never seen any connection between BCPs and Stills. However, there IS a

connection between BCPs and lupus. Lupus affect women over men 8 to 2. Did

they run the tests for lupus (there are a bunch of them)? Even if they had, it

might be too early for the antibodies to show up which is another reason that

the docs jumped the gun on this. You might want to go to the American College of

Rheumatology and read the 11 criteria (of which a patient must have at least 4

to be diagnosed) for lupus and see if your daughter has other symptoms. Some of

the symptoms are things you wouldn't associate with lupus like mouth lesions or

false positive tests for things like syphillis.

I hadn't read this post from you before I posted in response to another one of

your posts. Autoimmune diseases take time to develop antibodies so if your

daughter was tested within a month of her onset of symptoms, any antibody tests

would be inaccurate because our bodies take time to develop antibodies. That's

why when you eat something for the first time you are rarely allergic to it.

It's the second time, now that you have antibodies, that causes an allergic

reaction. Lupus is just a huge whopping allergic reaction against your body.

So your daughter should be retested in January by a rheumy. And probably an

infectious disease doc.
