Guest guest
I use it ALL of the time! I use it in place of sugar in all of my baking needs, and I also add 1/2 tsp or so to my son's enzymes mixed with vegetable glycerin. It is a wonderful sugar replacement as far as I'm concerned, and yes, I've been told (and have read) that it does NOT feed yeast. It is a bit expensive, but WELL worth the money. I use it for all of my baking and cooking needs for the whole family, not just my ASD child. I've heard from some that if used too much, it can cause loose stools, but we have not had that problem. I try not to offer too many sweet treats, even WITH the Xylitol, so perhaps that is why we don't have a problem with loose stools. I say give it a try--it's been WELL worth it for us!! ~Diane Mom to Aaren, age 3, ASD <<Is there anyone who is familiar with xylitol - a natural sweetner that can be used for baking etc. Is it safe for our children? Some people claim that it inhibits bacterial growth and helps with ear infections. Can this be true? Any info welcome. Guest guest
The loose stools thing is true, but only if you eat quite a bit. I can't imagine most autistic kids eating that much. Ben and I pigged out on muffins once. We ate like 6 each, or some such gluttonous thing. Then I had a problem. As Dr. JM has said before, *anything* can feed yeast, it's really just a matter of degrees. Don't go overboard and you should be fine.
