Guest guest
I would like to say hello to everyone. I just found out the other day that that what I have suffered for many years is an actual condition. I had never heard of misophonia. I heard it on the news and I was like " WOW! " I immediately looked it up and found this group. I hope to learn about things that can help me control my anger when sounds bother me. Guest guest
I'm sorry. I have been told that I am making it up countless times. Someone told me that I can't just be scared of everything. I wanted to punch her hard. It is a HUGE deal. It has effected so many peoples lives. It has made people isolate themselves. I bet it has made people suicidal. Always be strong fellow sufferers. > > > > > > Eight hundred members here and it " isn't common " ? Guest guest
I too just found out. It's a relief to know that I'm not toally crazy or alone. This problem has run my life since childhood and is getting worse as I get older causing me to become more and more isolated and unable to go and do many things. Guest guest
Hello and welcome! You are surrounded by loving, helpful and very smart people on this forum. I have received so much support on this forum for which I am forever grateful. I don't suffer from the condition but my 14 year old daughter does. She suffers greatly with it. She really can't handle it at all and is getting worse each and everyday. We have tried therapy and medication with no success. We are beginning DBT therapy and neurofeedback beginning this week. Like you, my daughter's condition started with me as her biggest trigger. I hope you have had a chance to read through the messages to help you learn new ways to cope with this terrible condition. You are not alone and it helps knowing there are others fighting to find a cure or a way to live with Misophonia. > > Well where to start! > > I am a 26yo female living in Berkshire UK, I found out about this condition about 2 days ago through another forum. > > When I saw a description of this condition I cried and it felt as though a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. > > I have many, many triggers including the sound of people eating, whistling (v. bad reaction), gum chewing and cracking, snoring, tapping fingers, clicking pens. My reaction is usually to leave the room, asking the person to stop, and also self harm (I bite my fingers/hands on my right hand, the skin is now very very leathery). > > My original trigger was the sound of my mums jaw clicking when she eats, this is my earliest memory of feeling the anger/rage and the need to escape, this was when I was 6 so I have had this for 20 years and not know about it. > > No real question just hello, and what do you do to lesson the symptoms? >
