Guest guest
I got my official diagnosis from tests June 6 of last year and started treatment November 4th. I don't worry about the skin thing because I don't hang out in the sun anyway. RA is progressive so if I don't do anything it will progress. The herxing is not so bad and it is part of healing. I understand that the more severe the case the more severe the herx. The way I figure it is that I can have pain from getting sicker or pain from getting well. j
Guest guest
Hi SEG 14! Doxycycline has fewer side effects and I dont think it discolors the skin. I have used doses of Pred. to control the Herxs. Hope this helps. Guest guest
I can't verify how true this is, but I heard that in Washington State there was a team of brothers who were gynecologists, named E.Rection and P.Rection. !! I've been on minocin for five years and my skin has never changed color. Shirley
Guest guest
Hi , Sounds like you are having flair rather than a Herx. My Herx. came on a day that I had no pain at all. I had worked on some repairs on the roof, did some plumbing, and used an air hammer on some cement. The last chore was a mistake!! I went inside the house, took a shower, ate some dinner, and my Herx. came over me like a very painful blanket! Within one hour , I went from feeling great to not being able to move. I went to bed. Could'nt move, could'nt sleep. I took 5 mg. Pred every 1-2 hrs. until the pain began to subside. 30-40 mg. total. The next day I took 20 mg. Next day 10 mg. Nex t day 5 mg. etc. I have been in a flair for the last 4-5 weeks from trying to increase my Doxy from 200 to 300 mg. MWF. I have since, backed down to 200 mg. with a decrease in symptoms. Last week I started the O2 therapy suggested by Ray ( the critters do'nt like oxygen! ). I also built an infra red sauna, and have been using that for the same length of time ( 8 days ). I had to back off from them yesterday, due to the pain flair ). I took 1mg. Pred today to see the effect. It's obvious to me , the critters really dont like either one of the therapies! My suggestion to you, which comes from information that I have recieved from this group ( whom I love dearly ! ) is to stop the Doxy. until the symptoms subside. Porbably 4-10 days. Then start at a lower dose: 50 mg. MWF for 2-4 weeks. T hen increase by 50 mg. increments until signs begin to show up at that dose, and then stay there for a while. I listen to my bod to tell me where I am with the dosage. I just purchased the book, Safe Uses Of Cortisol ( from the list ) to guide me with acceptable uses of Pred. in humans. One thing that I have learned from being in the group, is that humans are far more sensitive to drugs than animals!!! Hope this helps. Guest guest
, I guess my situation seems most similar to yours. I have been able to control my symptoms with diet (till now...but I had been " bad " for 3 months while travelling on and off). But you say you had very mild problems before the antibiotics. Could you tell me how mild, and since they were, how did you get the courage to do it, knowing you'd get worse. Now it seems, you are feeling worse, yet I hear that you still feel you did the right thing. Is that true?? Is your belief that your getting sick now is simply a herx, and that if you had done nothing, your mild would have become severe and you'd be feeling lousy without treating the RA? Also, I'm self-employed, need the $, and am scared re: loss of income, although I do know if the RA gets worse, I'd be in the same boat anyway, and w/o hope, too! I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, and I hope you're feeling better by the time you get this.
Guest guest
Dear , It's so exciting to hear that you're hiking and dancing. Till one month ago, I was a gym person, working out a lot and enjoying it. What I hate most is the inactivity. I'm a physical person, and more than the discomfort, I can't stand laying around like a slug! Your story is inspiring. My knees are beginning to act up. I'm giving it to the end of Februray, 'cause we're still checking out if this is a drug reaction, then I'm going to start the treatment. I guess I'll do minocin, but I'm wondering if tetracycline or doxy is better. How do people know? You still do anti-inflammatories? I take Relafen now, and when I do I feel pretty okay. I wonder if it's okay to go on a treadmill if you do feel well on the meds. I'm afraid of joint damage, though I have no swelling and knees only hurt now when I move from sit to stand. I " m so glad you feel well.! And thanks for the info. ,

Also I need prophylactic If the additional antibiotic is compatible with minocycline/doxycycline, then you can take it at the same time. If it isn't compatible, then you would stop the minocycline/doxycycline for a week or so while you take the course of the additional antibiotic. Then resume the minocycline/doxycycline. Chris.
