Guest guest
Kathy, When I was trying to get pregnant (many years ago) I went through several fertility tests. One of them (can't remember which now) determined I was killing off my husbands sperm before it could get to the tubes. Something about the ph balance of my vagina, and I was reminded of it when I read your post. I used a vinegar & water douche about an hour before intercourse. The first month I tried it, I was pregnant. I have always had irritation after intercourse. Now I'm wondering if I do have an allergic reaction to my husbands sperm. I'm sure condoms would help by not letting the sperm enter, but there is no way I could tolerate a condom. But, the allergic thing is something else for me to consider. Thanks for the thought. Guest guest
Kathy, You raise a good point. I too have alot more irritation after sex, especially the day after. Sorry to get graphic but, the next morning I have a discharge from the semen that burns very bad. I wonder if there is a connection. Guest guest
Kathy, I've also wondered if semen is irritating to my tissues. After we have intercourse, I burn like crazy for a few hours, especially if I have to get up to urinate. We did a little experiment and used condoms for a while, even though I'm on the pill. Although it definitely still hurt, I did feel like my skin was less irritated afterward. You may want to give it a try and see if you have similar results. I'd be very interested to know what happens if anyone tries this. Guest guest
Dear All, Obviously my initial thoughts were that my husband and I were allergic to each other, but since hearing from all of you, I'm not sure anymore. When I first joined the vulvodynia list I asked whether people had first noticed their problems shortly after meeting their new partner. I did get a couple of replies saying 'yes', but that was all, so I took it that the majority were saying 'no'. If it is an allergic reaction, I wonder whether it could just be PH levels in the skin, not necessarily just in the sperm. I say this because I don't get as far as intercourse anymore (its an impossibility), but I do still get the pain and burning from the slightest little touch. Just a few of my thoughts. Kind regards - vvs, POC, burning .@...
Guest guest
I get the same thing! I wonder if its just from being there at all or I am actually allergic to it. It doesn't happen everytime, though. I do think I am allergic to latex however, because whenever I use condoms I burn soooo bad. I've had to switch to the pill for that and other reasons. Also, I know the pill has nothing to do with the cause of my pain because I have only been on it for a year and I have had pain for 6 years. Guest guest
You know what you guys....I have this problem too! Even though I've been able to have sex every once in awhile recently, the semen is very irritating to me. Because I'm trying to get pregnant, I try not to get up and wipe it out right away (like I used to always do because it stings). However, by the time I finally do get up and go to the bathroom, it burns like hell and I usually have to take a bath with Aveeno to deaden the burning/raw sensation. Now I wonder if we're allergic to the semen, or if it's just irritating our already very irritated vulvar skin. Kind of like 'which comes first, the chicken or the egg'? I've noticed something else that I've been meaning to ask about and keep forgetting to. Has anyone ever noticed that after they urinate, there is a film in the toilet water. It's a kind of shimmery film. I have noticed it appears when I seem to be in the most discomfort. I wondered if it was acid or something weird. Guest guest
Heidi, (snip) >Now I wonder if we're allergic to the semen, or if it's just irritating >our already very irritated vulvar skin. Kind of like 'which comes >first, the chicken or the egg'? I have problems with this, too, and I'm not trying to get pregnant so I usually get up right after sex and go 'squeeze it out' into the toilet. I read somewhere that most semen is very alkaline (pH of about 9), and our vaginas prefer to be acidic. Maybe the mixture of the different pH's is what causes a problem.. or maybe it's an allergy - it's possible! >I've noticed something else that I've been meaning to ask about and keep >forgetting to. I've also noticed several times that my urine smells very WEIRD, and sometimes very strong, too and it's usually during (or just preceding) a flare-up. Anybody else?? Guest guest
My doctor told me, because I have a yeast problem, when I was yeasty, have hubby use a condom. I wonder if a yeast vaginal cream on the penis would help. Not before intercourse, but say, three times a day for two weeks. I also know that oral sex can pass yeast. We all have it in our mouths. Sorry if I offended anyone. I don't know all the rules yet. Just an old soul with lots of years behind me. Lona If my email fail to contact me try kikipuppy@... That is my backup. Guest guest
Gail and Heidi, I do not get the film in the toilet but, I alot of times get the strong urine smell. I do not think it is an allergy to sperm but just an irritation. I find it helps to rinse off with water after. Beckie

Yes, it looks like dirty petrol on water, its one of those things I took to be normal I guess, but as you've mentioned it. Kind regards - vvs, POC, burning .@...
